Description

Northrop Grumman Australia (NGA) is offering a Systems Engineering Internship within the Triton Program, as part of our 2026–2027 Summer Intern Program.

This internship provides an opportunity to work within the Air Vehicle Team, supporting real Defence aviation operations. You’ll be exposed to a wide range of engineering disciplines, including systems, mechanical, structures, and avionics engineering, while contributing to engineering activities that support squadron flying operations and aircraft maintenance.

You’ll work alongside experienced engineers, gaining handson experience in applying systems engineering principles to realworld Defence challenges.

What you’ll be doing

As a Systems Engineer Intern, you will:

  • Support the delivery of engineering responses to requests from maintenance and operational teams

  • Assist with the preparation of engineering reports, technical reports, Technical Orders, and engineering dispositions

  • Help analyse and resolve engineering issues impacting the Triton fleet, including air vehicle and ground systems

  • Support incorporation of engineering changes into the system, working with international design and technical data

  • Contribute to technically sound engineering outputs that support continued fleet operations and serviceability

This 12 week internship is designed to help you learn, grow, and gain confidence in a real Defence engineering environment.  This role is based at our Edinburgh base in Adelaide, South Australia.

Eligibility requirements:

We’re seeking motivated engineering students who are eager to learn in a Defence aviation environment. Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • Current study in Aerospace, Systems, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Software, or Avionics Engineering

  • 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year university standing

  • A basic understanding of systems engineering concepts, including system architecture and interface definition

  • Strong problemsolving skills and attention to detail

  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to work in a multidisciplinary engineering team

  • Ability to work full-time over the allocated internship period

If you’re ready to apply your engineering studies in a real Defence environment and learn from some of the best in the industry, we’d love to hear from you.  You can submit your application, along with your Resume, Cover Letter and Academic Transcripts on our website. Due to our secure systems, we are unable to accept resumes and other documentation via email.

The Recruitment Process

  • Apply on our website with the required documents. A cover letter is crucial as we want to know, “why us?”

  • You will receive an email with a survey and some more information about Northrop Grumman, which we hope you complete as soon as possible.

  • You will receive a call or email from one of our friendly recruitment team to talk through your application. From here, our recruitment team will organise for you to attend one of our assessment centres or an interview.

  • A recruitment representative or your hiring manager will give you a call to let you know if you are successful or unsuccessful.

  • If you are successful, a People and Culture representative will then reach out to you to discuss your onboarding and provide a warm welcome to Northrop Grumman!

Please note that our recruitment process can be lengthy due to the strong security checks required which allow our Interns to get close to our secure technology. Therefore, any candidates MUST have an Australian Citizenship to apply.
