Job description
As Group Head of Sustainability, you are responsible for defining and driving BESIX Group’s sustainability ambition at the highest level. You lead the design, implementation, and continuous evolution of the Group’s sustainability strategy across all operations and geographies.
You act as a key advisor to executive leadership, ensuring sustainability is fully embedded into business strategy, decision-making, and operations. By combining strategic vision with execution power, you drive measurable impact across environmental, social, and governance dimensions, while ensuring full alignment with European and international regulatory frameworks.
Your responsibilities as Group Head Of Sustainability
- Shaping sustainability strategy & performance
- Define and continuously refine a Group-wide sustainability strategy aligned with BESIX’s growth ambitions and evolving market dynamics
- Anticipate and monitor key trends, regulatory developments, and emerging risks and opportunities
- Establish clear KPIs, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms to track performance and support executive decision-making
- Driving organisational transformation
- Integrate sustainability into governance, enterprise risk management, and capital allocation frameworks
- Lead a cultural transformation across the organisation, embedding sustainability from boardroom to project execution
- Design and roll out training programmes for leadership and operational teams
- Build and lead a global sustainability network across regions and business units
- Develop incentive structures and performance frameworks linked to sustainability outcomes
- Ensuring regulatory excellence & data governance
- Lead the Group’s full compliance with CSRD and other relevant frameworks
(incl. double materiality, data governance, audit readiness and reporting) - Ensure alignment with international standards such as TCFD, ESRS and EU Taxonomy
- Drive collaboration with Legal, Compliance and ICT to ensure robust data systems, controls and reporting platforms
- Leverage data and analytics to continuously improve sustainability performance
- Strengthening stakeholder engagement & positioning
- Build and manage relationships with auditors, rating agencies, certification bodies, NGOs and regulators
- Shape BESIX’s sustainability positioning in close collaboration with Communication
- Represent the Group in key national and international forums and partnerships
- Building and leading the sustainability function
- Develop and structure a high-performing sustainability team
- Coach and empower stakeholders across the organisation
- Foster alignment and collaboration across a complex, international business environment
- Master’s degree in business, Economics, Law, Engineering, Environmental Sciences or similar
- 10–15 years of experience in corporate sustainability, with strong exposure to topics such as climate, energy, circularity, workforce and governance
- Experience in construction or infrastructure is a plus
- Proven international exposure
- Fluent in English, combined with Dutch and/or French
