Job description
Overview Overview Evergreen’s Applied Engineering Services (AES) practice is seeking a Solution Architect to lead the design and delivery of project management solutions for natural gas utility clients. This role will leverage extensive experience across gas transmission, distribution, storage, compression, LNG, and RNG -related projects to develop project management, project controls, scheduling, and closeout frameworks that improve how regulate d gas utility capital programs are executed. The Solution Architect will translate hands -on natural gas utility experience into high -impact, scalable solutions that support safe, compliant, and efficient end -to-end project delivery —from planning and permitting through construction, commissioning, and closeout —while helping utility organizations strengthen governance, visibility, and regulatory readiness across their capital portfolios. Responsibilities Key Responsibilities Solution Design & Architecture • Design and implement integrated project management and project controls frameworks tailored to natural gas utilities , including PMO standup, governance models, and lifecycle standards. • Establish standardized processes for project planning, estimating, scheduling, risk management, change control, and closeout in support of gas infrastructure programs such as pipeline integrity, station upgrades, system expansions, RNG interconnections, an d modernization initiatives. • Ensure solutions align with client objectives, regulatory obligations, and industry best practices specific to the gas utility environment. End -to-End Project Delivery Enablement • Provide technical leadership to ensure solutions support the full lifecycle of gas utility projects — from concept development and regulatory filings through construction, testing, commissioning, and turnover to operations. • Apply real -world experience managing gas utility capital projects to design practical, executable frameworks that enable on -time, on -budget delivery while maintaining the highest safety and quality standards. • Support clients in building delivery teams and execution models appropriate for regulated gas utility programs. Process Improvement & Standards • Embed industry best practices and continuous improvement principles into client solutions, leveraging PMI standards, ISO 21500 guidance, and Lean Six Sigma methodologies. • Develop and standardize workflows for critical functions such as risk management, constructability reviews, contractor oversight, document control, and regulatory closeout. • Continuously refine processes to improve project predictability, audit readiness, and operational handoff. Technology Integration & Analytics • Integrate project management technologies and analytics into gas utility delivery models, including: o Oracle Primavera P6 (or equivalent) for detailed scheduling and resource planning o SAP or similar ERP systems for cost tracking, forecasting, and project controls o Data visualization and reporting platforms (e.g., Power BI) for executive dashboards, KPIs, and risk visibility • Ensure reporting frameworks support regulatory reporting, management reviews, and capital governance requirements common to natural gas utilities. Client Engagement & Advisory • Partner closely with natural gas utility clients to assess current project delivery maturity, identify gaps, and define improvement roadmaps. • Serve as a trusted advisor to client leadership by clearly articulating solution value, regulatory alignment, and expected outcomes. • Facilitate workshops, working sessions, and stakeholder reviews to drive alignment, adoption, and long -term sustainability of implemented solutions. Leadership & Mentorship • Lead and mentor cross -functional delivery teams, including project managers, schedulers, analysts, engineers, and information management professionals. • Provide training and coaching to AES team members and client staff on standardized project management practices, tools, and governance models. • Establish KPI routines and review cadences that promote accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement across gas utility programs. Business Development Support • Support AES business development and account teams by contributing gas utility project experience to proposals, presentations, and client pursuits. • Help identify follow -on opportunities such as PMO expansion, program controls, regulatory support, or analytics enhancements. • Drive high client satisfaction through measurable outcomes, referenceable success stories, and repeat engagements. Qualifications Required Qualifications & Experience Education & Certifications • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Petroleum, or related field) required. • Master’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Business is a plus. • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification strongly preferred. • Additional credentials such as Lean Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt), MBA, or relevant gas utility certifications are advantageous. Natural Gas Utility Experience • 5+ years of experience in the natural gas utility industry , with significant involvement in capital project delivery. • Demonstrated experience managing gas transmission, distribution, storage, compression, LNG, RNG, or integrity -related projects. • Familiarity with the full project lifecycle, including planning, permitting, construction, commissioning, and closeout within a regulated utility or EPC environment. • Proven ability to deliver projects safely, on schedule, and within budget while navigating regulatory and operational constraints. Project Management & Controls Expertise • Strong command of project management methodologies, governance frameworks, and PMO operating models. • Experience developing standard operating procedures, templates, metrics, and controls that improve delivery consistency and transparency. • Practical knowledge of risk management, cost control, schedule management, and change management in gas utility contexts. Technical & Systems Skills • Proficiency with Primavera P6 or MS Project for scheduling and resource management. • Working knowledge of SAP or similar ERP systems for project accounting and controls. • Strong analytical and reporting skills, including advanced Excel and data visualization tools. • Experience with collaboration and document management platforms (e.g., SharePoint, Teams) in regulated environments. Leadership & Communication • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills. • Ability to operate effectively in client -facing consulting environments, engaging utility executives, field leadership, and delivery teams. • Demonstrated capability to mentor teams, influence without authority, and drive adoption of standardized practices. Domain & Regulatory Knowledge • Strong understanding of natural gas utility operations and infrastructure, including pipelines, stations, meters, storage facilities, and control systems. • Familiarity with applicable regulatory and compliance frameworks such as PHMSA/DOT (49 CFR Parts 192 & 195), OSHA, environmental permitting, and integrity management requirements. • Ability to design solutions that align project execution with safety, compliance, and operational readiness expectations.
