The Security and Employment Service Center (SESC) is looking for people committed to providing financial services and human resources support to the Departments of: Public Safety; Labor; Professional and Financial Regulation; and Defense, Veterans, and Emergency Management.

Financial Service Centers provide professional financial expertise to manage the financial activities of multiple Departments and bureaus, with accounts that vary in size and complexity. Services for customer agencies include accounting and financial processing, cash management, budget development and monitoring, financial analysis, grant management, legislative support, and administrative functions.

Primary responsibilities include:  

As an Accounting Technician at the Department of Administrative and Financial Services in the Security and Employment Service Center (SESC), you will work closely with SESCs team members processing cash, checks, wires, verifying account information and accuracy and providing other support in Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable as needed.   The position is based in Augusta, Maine with some telework availability. 

In this role, you will:

  • Review and process accounts payable, accounts receivable, travel expenses, pre- and post-audit billings and payments to ensure compliance with state policies and procedures and satisfy financial obligations.
  • Set up, monitor, and make adjustments and closing entries to document financial activity for a project or program.
  • Review and balance subsidiary and control accounts, collections, inventory, and other accounts to ensure reasonableness and accuracy.
  • Monitor the status of accounts, budgets, and contracts.

Minimum qualifications:

Entry-level to intermediate education, training, and/or experience in accounting or another closely related field demonstrating competency applying accounting principles, reviewing and processing business transactions, and preparing reports.

The backgrounds of well-qualified candidates will demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Proficiency in MS Excel
  • Skilled in Accounts Payable and Account Receivable systems
