Foundation Teacher – Economics and IT Skills
Location: Hobart, Tasmania
Part-Time | Sessional | On-site
About the role:
This is a sessional appointment commencing at 0.25 FTE in June 2026. The role is responsible for the delivery of the units Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Digital Literacy for Learning. All units are delivered face to face at the University of Tasmania’s Sandy Bay campus. Curriculum materials are provided, with flexibility to adapt delivery to suit your teaching style.
Teaching Responsibilities
June–October 2026
Microeconomics
Offered in alternating study periods, this unit introduces students to how individuals and firms make decisions and allocate resources within markets.
Future Study Periods
Macroeconomics
Offered in an alternating pattern with Microeconomics, this unit introduces key models and measures used to analyse the economy, including economic activity, business cycles, and the role of fiscal and monetary policy in achieving government macroeconomic goals.
Digital Literacy for Learning
This is a newly developed unit, intended to be delivered in every study period commencing in Study Period 3, 2026. The unit develops students’ capability to use digital technologies responsibly and effectively to support learning, communication, assessment, and academic integrity in tertiary study.
Each study period consists of a 13‑week teaching cycle followed by an examination week. There are three study periods per year, commencing in February, June, and October.
About you:
Our students come from diverse international backgrounds and are motivated to succeed at university. The successful applicant will combine strong pedagogy with clear, supportive communication.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A bachelor degree or higher qualification in a relevant field (business, economics, or related discipline)
- A Certificate III or higher in Education (or studies in progress with relevant teaching experience)
- Strong classroom management skills
- Advanced English written and oral communication skills
- Confidence using digital technologies, including online learning management systems
- A proactive approach to reflective practice and continuous improvement
Teacher registration is not required. A current Working with Vulnerable People registration is mandatory.
