Job description

The Club Business Operations team supports the 30 Clubs in their business efforts, serving as liaisons to both the Clubs and the League. By leveraging industry best practices, analytics, and functional expertise, the group advises Clubs on a day-to-day basis. Club Business Operations is seeking a Senior Director, Club Strategy to lead the Club Strategy vertical.

The Club Strategy team produces executive reporting, identifies actionable insights, leads second-order analyses, and supports Club strategy engagements. This position will be a key liaison between the MLB League office and MLB Clubs, leveraging data and strategic insights to drive revenue, fan engagement, and operational excellence across all 30 Clubs. The ideal candidate is not only capable of interpreting data but can also synthesize information from multiple sources, identify scalable solutions and best practices, prioritize, and communicate with a wide variety of audiences. This role requires managerial experience, strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills, the ability to own projects from inception to execution, and an entrepreneurial mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Club Strategy team to drive executive reporting to Clubs and identify actionable insights.
  • Explore and evaluate strategies and tactics across fan development, revenue, and operational excellence
  • Find new and innovative ways to support Clubs through data and insights
  • Perform detailed quantitative (e.g., market analyses, consumer trends) and qualitative (e.g., case studies) analyses and develop actionable recommendations for MLB Clubs to drive revenue growth and fan engagement
  • Develop analytical approaches to transform complex data into thoughtful, actionable, and scalable insights for all Clubs
  • Build strong relationships and collaborate with team members and executives across multiple functions at both the League and Clubs (e.g., Ticketing, Sponsorship, Marketing) to identify high-potential opportunities, source data/resources, and align plans
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to a broad range of audiences at the League and at Clubs, including senior executives
  • Manage, train, and actively develop the Club Strategy team
  • Assist with planning and executing CBO-led workshops and League-wide meeting

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree; MBA preferred
  • 10 years or more of experience in Consulting, Finance, Strategy, or related field
  • Experience in Sports (ideally Team or League) and/or Media & Entertainment a strong plus
  • Superior critical thinking, analytical, communication (written and verbal), and presentation skills
  • Exceptional data evaluation skills with the ability to interpret information from various sources and offer creative, practical, actionable insights
  • Ability to work cross-functionally, prioritize, multi-task, and manage major projects, often in an ambiguous environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of an organization
  • Experience developing team members
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint

Salary Range: $200,000-$240,000 (Base Salary) + Bonus

As a candidate for this position, your salary and related aspects of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, skills, and any other factors MLB considers relevant to the hiring decision.
