Job description

The role of Substance Use Practitioner will compliment the existing probation team, managing an identified caseload of young adults, addressing substance misuse issues, and reducing the risk of re-offending. The team works in the heart of communities, to deliver treatment packages that are tailored to the needs of young people, and their families or carers.

Main Duties and Accountabilities

  • Working alongside Surrey Probation Service, offering an initial triage service and assessment for referred young adults, aged between 18 – 25 years of age.
  • Offering accurate information on assessment and therapeutic interventions available through Catch22 SYPSUS, and contributing to assessment and care planning, related to targeted and specialist interventions for young adults with substance use issues.
  • Providing sustained support to a pre-defined caseload of young adults who are referred by means of effective assessment and care planning, and acting as a link worker between Surrey Probation and Catch22 SYPSUS, to ensure delivery of an integrated provision for young adults.
  • To work alongside Surrey Probation colleagues providing consultation and guidance, and assessing levels of presenting risk associated with substance use. Providing support in managing related risks by escalating cases appropriately according, providing substance use interventions, and/or signposting to ensure onward referral and/or transition of young adults to Catch22 SYPSUS as appropriate.
  • In partnership with SYPSUS colleagues, delivering training and workshops to support and upskill probation staff, identifying and developing resources to support professionals working with young adults and substance use issues.

  • Good ICT skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Relevant qualification in either youth work studies, counselling, health and social care, and/or relevant experience of therapeutic delivery, and alternative suitable qualifications.
  • Relevant experience in delivering specialist therapeutic substance misuse interventions with young adults, and able to assess and identify early indicators of risk.
  • Access to a car, a full driving licence, valid MOT, and business insurance.

Salary: up to £27,000 ( dependent on knowledge skills, and experience )
Hours of Work: Full time 
Contract: Permanent
Flexibility: This is a outreach and engagement role within the Surrey community (main office is in Leatherhead)

 *This role requires an up to date driving licence, access to a vehicle, MOT and business insurance.
*You may be required to work out of hours, including evenings and weekends where necessary, in addition to travel around Surrey on a daily basis, and occasional travel around the UK.
*Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check required.
