Job description

Overview

Responsible for the application of informatics and technology in connection to the ordering, dispensing, and administration of medications as it relates to the Health Information System. This includes development, implementation, maintenance, optimization, and support of pharmacy automation products and software. Serves as the primary training resource for new users on products and software. Performs trend analyses and database assessments in order to identify drug diversion activities in addition to serving as a primary drug diversion resource for nursing and pharmacy leadership. Special emphasis is placed on the specialist's ability to fully understand pharmacy operations. Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

A. EDUCATION: i. High school diploma or equivalent required ii. College level study in pharmacy, health care field or basic sciences preferred

B. EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: i. Must meet all requirements of a Pharmacy Technician Level 3 position. ii. In addition to I. one of the following requirements must be met for minimum training:

  • Six months of UF Health Shands Pharmacy Technician experience and completion of all competencies
  • Twelve months of pharmacy technician experience iii. Formal presentation and/or teaching experience preferred. iv. Exceptional knowledge and/or aptitude may be considered in lieu of experience

C. JOB KNOWLEDGE/CHARACTERISTICS: i. Knowledge of contemporary pharmacy services/operations. ii. Experience with word processing, spreadsheet and database management programs preferred iii. Demonstrated knowledge of personal computers. iv. Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills. v. Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and work independently without direct supervision. vi. Demonstrated ability to independently identify and resolve problems. vii. Demonstrated ability to positively contribute to effective working relationships both inter- and intra-departmentally in pursuit of common goals. viii. Demonstrated ability to integrate education and service activities.

Additional Requirement:

As a condition of employment within the Pharmacy Services Department of Shands Hospital all employees must be accessible by telephone. This requires each employee to provide a valid telephone number to the department Staff Assistant, in order for the department to reach them in the event of hospital need and/or emergency.

Motor Vehicle Operator Designation

Employees in this position

Will operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose as a 'non-frequent driver'

NOTE: A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or University of Florida Health automobile a) at least once daily, b at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job.

Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • All Pharmacy Technicians must be registered with the Florida Board of Pharmacy as a Registered Pharmacy Technician or licensed Pharmacist Intern prior to their first day of employment.
  • Must present proof of current Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) status upon employment or obtain national pharmacy technician certification within the first 90 days. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
