Job description

AECOM is seeking a Lead Project Director, Surrey Langley SkyTrain (SLS) to join our Transportation team in Vancouver, British Columbia.

 

The Surrey Langley SkyTrain Project is one of the largest transportation infrastructure investments currently underway in Canada. This role will provide executive leadership, governance, commercial oversight, risk management, and strategic guidance to support successful project delivery and strengthen collaboration among project stakeholders.

Reporting to the Region Business Line Leader, Transportation, the Lead Project Director will work closely with project leadership, senior client representatives, joint venture partners, and executive stakeholders to support project performance, manage risk, facilitate decision-making, and help ensure successful delivery of project objectives.

 

Key Responsibilities

Executive Leadership

  • Serve as the senior executive lead supporting AECOM's participation on the Surrey Langley SkyTrain Project.
  • Provide visible leadership and executive oversight across project delivery activities.
  • Serve as the Project Director and provide leadership to the project team in achieving project objectives.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, safety, quality, and delivery excellence.

Program Governance

  • Participate in project governance and executive leadership forums.
  • Provide strategic advice and guidance to project leadership on complex delivery, organizational, commercial, and stakeholder matters.
  • Support executive decision-making through timely assessment of project performance, risks, and opportunities.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of project improvement and recovery strategies where required.

Commercial & Risk Management

  • Provide executive oversight and guidance related to project risk management and commercial performance.
  • Support the identification, assessment, mitigation, and escalation of project risks.
  • Monitor project performance and recommend actions to improve outcomes.
  • Support contract management activities and resolution of complex commercial issues.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with senior client representatives, project partners, consultants, contractors, and executive stakeholders.
  • Support executive-level communications regarding project performance, challenges, opportunities, and strategic initiatives.
  • Facilitate alignment among project stakeholders to support successful project outcomes.
  • Represent AECOM in executive meetings, workshops, and governance discussions.

Organizational Leadership

  • Provide mentorship and support to project leaders and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Support workforce planning and organizational capability development.
  • Promote collaboration across business lines, technical disciplines, and project teams.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and delivery excellence programs.

 

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive years of professional experience in engineering, construction, infrastructure, program management, or related industries including 6+ years of experience in senior leadership, program leadership, project leadership, or operational leadership roles.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 30+ years of professional experience in major infrastructure, transportation, rail, mining, industrial, energy, or capital project environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large, multidisciplinary teams and complex infrastructure programs.
  • Experience providing executive governance, strategic oversight, commercial leadership, or risk management on major capital projects.
  • Experience working with multiple project delivery models including Design-Build, EPC, EPCM, Alliance, Progressive Design-Build, or similar collaborative delivery approaches.
  • Strong experience managing senior stakeholder relationships and supporting executive-level decision-making.
  • Experience providing executive governance or leadership support on major transportation, rail, transit, or infrastructure programs.
  • Experience serving in executive leadership, commercial leadership, operational leadership, program sponsor, project sponsor, project director, or governance roles.
  • Strong background in commercial management, risk management, project governance, organizational leadership, and business performance improvement.
  • Experience managing organizational performance, project recovery initiatives, delivery excellence programs, or operational improvement programs.
  • Experience leading geographically dispersed teams and supporting large-scale project organizations.
  • Professional designation such as P.Eng., PMP, PgMP, MBA, or equivalent is considered an asset.
  • Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, negotiation, and leadership skills.
