SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Sets up and operates C.N.C. machines, mills and drills on a variety of work involving hole drilling, tapping, threading, turning, reaming, boring, facing and other machining operations performed on C.N.C. equipment.
SPECIFIC DUTIES, ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Utilizes knowledge of working properties for a wide variety of materials such as aluminum, brass, cast iron, alloy steels, plastics, etc.
- Presets tools and addresses tool of-sets prior to finishing cuts.
- Required to make edits on programs and modify tooling in the event of new programs, tools or parts.
- Uses measuring instruments such as micrometer, vernier, caliper, ect to verify conformance to specifications.
- Utilizes knowledge of shop mathematics, charts and tables.
- Trains and assists other C.N.C set up Operators.
- Works from factory work orders, prints, and sketches, written or verbal instructions.
- Notifies supervisor of shop requirements.
- Operates C.N.C machines as assigned and may require to operate more than one machine simultaneously.
- Works to required tolerances and is responsible for quality of work produced.
- Follows preventative maintenance procedures as outlined by machine manufacture or supervisors.
- May be required to assist in machine repair.
- Keeps machine and work are clean and orderly.
- Makes proper job and time reports for timekeeping and tracking.
- Performs other duties as assigned utilization normal skill and ability of the current position.
- Remains aware and follows all health and safety practices. Works in a safe fashion and reports any concerns to supervisor.
EHS REQUIREMENTS:
- Additional duties and responsibilities will vary based upon departmental needs.
- Complete all work in a safe manner and follow all safety requirements consistent with supporting the Company’s goals.
- Lifting guidelines in accordance with the Manual Lifting Guidelines noted in the Safety Handbook.
- Follow all environmental requirements consistent with supporting the company’s environmental performance goals.
- Complete, and actively participate in all other EHS training requirements.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires over 5 years’ experience in related or subordinate work, plus 3-15 months on the job training.
- Requires knowledge equivalent to high school education plus 2 years technical training.
- Require ability to understand and solve technical problems of average nature.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to sit for extend periods of time; a minimum of 2 hours.
- Must be able to maneuver to all areas of the office, shop, warehouse, or manufacturing plant.
- Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds and carry up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to bend, reach, kneel, twist, and grip items while working at assigned desk area.
- Must have the manual dexterity and coordination to operate office equipment.
- Must be able to simultaneously manage several objectives, changing priorities and reassign priorities to complete assignments.
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work environment is typically considered within a Smiths location during normal or extended business hours to include offices, manufacturing plants and repair facilities. Work environment may also include customer sites including oil well sites, and meeting venues.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and approved PPE is required when on the factory floor.
COMPENSATION
- Competitive starting wage at $36.047 with scheduled increases after 3, 6, 9, and 12 months
- CNC Operator is required to work rotating shifts (7am-3pm and 3pm -11pm)
- Shift premiums of an additional $1.25 hour on the afternoon shift
- 100% employer-paid benefits
