Job description

Leverage your expertise in finance and understanding of support area operations to deliver timely, meaningful, and accurate financial information for the City of Edmonton’s Infrastructure Services department.
What will you do?
- This position will report to the Finance Manager, and will provide support by collecting historical data and creating financial spreadsheets for budget and reporting purposes
- Execute regular reporting cycles comparing budgeted figures against actual financial performance
- Develop financial analytical models and assist in formulating strategic fiscal guidance and consultation for operational leaders
- Participate in the review of proposed capital profiles, checking for reasonableness and completeness, ensuring that funding options are considered
- Partner with operations to verify needs and specifications, while identifying and evaluating potential options
- Initiate approval process, ensuring justification and support for the change is documented
- Perform data analysis to facilitate budget modifications; this includes evaluating benchmarks, generating forecasts and projections, establishing recovery rationales, and ensuring alignment with relevant agreements
- Perform budget consolidation and update information in COBS
- Undertake additional duties as assigned to assist the Senior Accountant and Finance Manager Qualifications
- Minimum degree from a recognized post-secondary institute in accounting
- Professional designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) is required
- Minimum three (3) years of progressively responsible related accounting experience, preferably within a public sector environment, and in roles performing financial analytics
Assets
- Experience working with capital financial planning and budgeting
Skills required for success
- Significant knowledge and experience with Google Sheets, SAP, Microsoft Excel, and other related systems within the context of the work
- Thorough understanding of general accounting activities (i.e., budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis)
- Thorough knowledge of corporate and departmental policies and procedures
- Thorough knowledge of the corporate financial system and its interrelationship to departmental accounting operations
- Significant experience and proficiency in major financial and analytical software systems
- High level of analytical and conceptual skills to identify and resolve complex financial problems
- Compliance with corporate and departmental policies and procedures, generally accepted accounting principles, CICA Handbook recommendations, and Public Accounting Standards recommendations
- Good working knowledge of most City functions and the type of work each department provides
- Strong problem-solving skills and effective communication to resolve operational and business issues
- Excellent customer service while ensuring adherence to professional standards
- Ability to effectively communicate and maintain a working relationship with all levels of management and non-management personnel

Work Environment
- Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance
