About the Role
As the Manager, Civil and Lines Engineering, you are responsible for transmission line design and the civil design of substations and telecommunication sites across ATCO Electric’s system. As part of the Engineering Management team, you’ll also be involved in department and company initiatives, including establishing business objectives and strategies.

Actively promote a safe work culture and visible leadership by ensuring compliance with the corporate policies and best practices related to Health, Safety and Environment.

Develop and manage the strategic application of human resources within the team and ensure development of succession plans.
•
Lead long-range strategic planning for the team considering the evolving grid and customer needs, changes in technology, and industry trends.
•
Manage the relationship with external engineering contractors and ensure the quality, timeliness, and cost-effectiveness of their work. Coordinate the allocation of resources and assignments between internal and external teams.
•
Manage ATCO Electric’s Drawing Control Team.
•
Outline and define annual performance goals, monitor performance, and ensure effective performance management practices are implemented.
•
Ensure technical and personal development plans are created for each team member, and development opportunities are identified and available for the team.
•
Develop and manage budgets for the team. Monitor financials to ensure targets are met, identifying trends and issues.
•
Ensure ATCO standards and best practices are met and comply with applicable codes and industry standards.
•
Manage and maintain relationships with peers within and external to ATCO Electric (ex. other TFOs, vendors, and industry groups).
•
Ensure the competency of staff by ensuring there is professional responsibility for all engineering work.
What You Bring
•
Proven leadership abilities with proficiency in the development and mentoring of managerial/supervisory employees.
•
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering is preferred.
•
Professional Engineer or Professional Licensee designation.
•
Minimum ten (10) years of experience in a role where strong leadership, technical skills, and business acumen required and demonstrated is preferred.
•
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, conflict management skills as well as sound decision making abilities
•
Strong project and contract management capabilities.
•
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, oral, and presentation) with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels within the organization.
•
Sound understanding of the Alberta Electric Utility regulatory structure and the Alberta Electric Utility Code.
•
Sound budgeting and accounting skills.
•
Strategic thinker with the ability to see the big picture and make decisions accordingly.
