Summary: Under the direction of the Clinical Manager, the Paramedic Team Lead has responsibility for effective implementation of the philosophy, goals, policies and procedures of the hospital and department and their effect on patient care. The Paramedic Team Lead has supervisory responsibilities in the department in the areas of patient care and environment of care, as well as performance of direct patient care as needed to meet the needs of the department. The Paramedic Team Lead has front-line supervisory oversight of the Senior Paramedic program in addition to responsibilities of professional development of assigned paramedics and/or patient care technician(s) detailed in the essential functions below.

Responsibilities

  • Staff Supervision: Supervise paramedic staff and other assigned staff; Coordinate completion of employee schedules with the manager; Work with manager to ensure proper staffing is being met; Perform quarterly coaching and deliver all PEACS to direct reports; Oversee staff currency for certifications and educational competencies.
  • Staff Development: Create and implement educational training and clinical development pathways for the paramedic staff; Coordinate mortality and morbidity case studies with the quality team leader, manage the quality control of the paramedic staff including chart audits, direct feedback and clinical development; Coordinate and maintain a Simulation lab for the clinical development of the paramedic staff or other assigned staff; Develop and implement professional development for direct reports, including the involvement in associations and national organizations for maintaining and developing the standards for clinical excellence in their field.
  • Operational Responsibilities: In collaboration with the Manager, create protocols that relate to the performance of the paramedic teams; Work with the manager to ensure that operations are staying within budget; Collaborate with other members of the leadership team to impact operations, processes, or programs; Follow and maintain the paramedics on daily checks and job duties; Under the guidance of the manager, periodically assume operational oversight of the department, including on-call, coordination of transport and problem resolution as needed. Responsible for department's operational excellence in collaboration with the manager; assure department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures and professional standards.
  • Patient Care Responsibilities: Assist in training and development of new staff. Provide objective feedback to team leader/manager related to progress of new hires; perform basic and advanced skills in accordance with the Paramedic protocols; assist staff with the stabilization of critically ill and inured neonatal and pediatric patients.
  • Other Responsibilities: Maintain all certifications and training as an Paramedic; cover open shifts and assist with calls when at the office. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • At least 3 years Job related experience Req
  • At least 1 year Experience in acute care/emergency setting Pref
  • At least 1 year Pediatric experience Pref

EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training beyond high school Req
  • Two-year Associate's degree or equivalent experience Req

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course Requirements Req
  • Either one of: Texas EMT-P, NRP, NREMT-P or LP licensure or certification
  • Req
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) 180 Days Req
  • Any one of: BTLS, ITLS or PHTLS (Basic Trauma Life Support/International Trauma Life Support, Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support) certification Pref
  • ACLS (Advance Cardiac Life Support) certification 180 Days Req
