Overview The Human Resources Generalist supports the work of the YMCA of Northern Colorado, a leading nonprofit and charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the supervision of the COO. The HR Generalist provides comprehensive HR support, serving as the first point of contact for employees and supervisors at a high-paced recreation facility. This role manages day-to-day HR operations, including high-volume recruitment for seasonal/part-time staff, onboarding, benefits administration, employee relations, and compliance with Colorado state employment laws. Coordinate, supervise and facilitate the training schedule for all internal (staff/volunteer) and external (community) certification courses, including but not limited to CPR, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, Standard Precautions, Lifeguarding Certification and Recertification, Wilderness First Aid, Red Cross Babysitting, AED, Oxygen Administration, and Concussion Protocol. Model relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner. Provides data and reports as required for assigned programs. Review existing outsourced processes and build in-house SOPs for the entire employee lifecycle—from hire to retire. Manage full-cycle recruitment for part-time, seasonal, and full-time recreation staff (e.g., lifeguards, instructors, fitness coaches). Facilitate new hire orientation, ensuring all hiring paperwork, background checks, and I-9 verifications are completed accurately. Coordinate, supervise and facilitate the training schedule for all internal (staff/volunteer) and external (community) certification courses, including but not limited to CPR, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, Standard Precautions, Lifeguarding Certification and Recertification, Wilderness First Aid, Red Cross Babysitting, AED, Oxygen Administration, and Concussion Protocol. Partner with department managers to understand staffing needs and support retention initiatives. Provide day-to-day guidance to staff and managers regarding policies, procedures, and employee relations issues. Lead investigations into workplace concerns and support performance management processes (disciplinary actions, performance plans). Ensure compliance with federal and Colorado-specific laws (e.g., FAMLI leave, wage and hour regulations). Administer employee benefits, including new hire enrollments, life events, and COBRA. Support outside payroll administrators, which may include reviewing timecards, managing Paid Time Off (PTO), and resolving discrepancies. Other duties as assigned. Experience: 2–3 years of broad HR experience, ideally in a hospitality, recreation, or municipal setting. Skills: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) and HRIS systems. Attributes: Exceptional organizational skills, ability to maintain confidentiality, and a customer-service-oriented approach to working with diverse staff. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others. YMCA Multi-Team or Branch Leader certification preferred. CPR and First Aid certifications may be required.
