Lead Software Engineer
Onsite 5x/week Cleveland Ohio

Overview
• There are 2 openings for the same Lead Backend/API Engineer role.
• One is net new, one is a backfill (previous hire didn t work out).
What The Team Does
• Building enterprise domain APIs as part of the API Engineering team.
• Heavy backend engineering no real frontend work except occasional UI for internal tools (handled mostly by React devs).
• The team historically built custom integration apps, but for the last 8 months has been focused on domain APIs within the integration layer.
• The team scope is expanding beyond domain APIs (XPDS model) to include broader API needs (e.g., CRM project process APIs).
Project Work
• Build and maintain domain APIs across areas like customer, product, territory, sales, location, etc.
• Deliver REST endpoints + business events (event-driven architecture).
• Everything exposed through API Management and Event Hub.
• Work may grow into broader API/platform needs as org expands its API vision.
Technical Requirements
Core Tech
• Java + Spring Boot
• API development: RESTful APIs, domain/API product mindset.
• Strong experience with modern microservices architecture.
Cloud
• Must have cloud experience (Azure preferred; AWS/Google Cloud Platform acceptable).
• Their actual environment uses:
• Azure API Management (APIM)
• Azure Service Bus (ASB)
• Azure Event Hub
• Azure Integration Services Suite
• Not using Cosmos anymore now using MongoDB.
• Nice to haves: Docker, Terraform/IaC, CICD
Other Key Needs
• Must be able to lead, pull a team, influence, and guide without hand-holding.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Must be comfortable operating in a fast-moving, high-output agile environment.
