Job Details
PLC Project Manager (Traveling Role)
Location: Full Time Traveling position - You can be based anywhere in the US
Pay: $120,000-$140,000
Summary: We’re looking for a highly experienced PLC Project Manager to lead large-scale automation projects supporting mission-critical and data center environments across the U.S. This is a travel-heavy role (75%+ travel required) and can be based anywhere.
This position goes beyond traditional project management — you’ll act as both a technical leader and client partner, overseeing the delivery of complex PLC-driven control systems tied to HVAC, mechanical, and electrical infrastructure. What You’ll Be Doing
• Lead full lifecycle execution of PLC and automation projects from kickoff through commissioning and closeout
• Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and risk across multiple active sites
• Coordinate closely with engineering, field teams, subcontractors, and system integrators
• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing technical guidance and project updates
• Oversee PLC system design including control strategies, network architecture, and redundancy approaches
• Ensure seamless integration between PLC systems, SCADA platforms, and facility systems (BMS/EPMS)
• Support commissioning efforts, troubleshooting, and system validation in the field
• Track financial performance, forecasts, and project milestones; provide regular reporting to leadership
• Manage contracts, change orders, and vendor relationships
• Drive consistency and best practices across projects to improve delivery quality and scalability

What We’re Looking For
• 7+ years of experience managing automation or PLC-based projects
• Strong background with Rockwell / Allen-Bradley PLCs and SCADA systems
• Experience leading complex, multi-phase projects involving commissioning and system integration
• Solid understanding of mechanical/electrical systems (HVAC, central plants, VFDs, etc.)
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams in fast-paced, high-stakes environments
• Strong financial and project management skills (budgeting, forecasting, scheduling)
• Comfortable working directly with clients and senior stakeholders

• Experience in data centers or other mission-critical facilities
• Familiarity with Ignition SCADA, Kepware, OPC-UA, Modbus, BACnet, or Ethernet/IP
• Experience managing system integrators and commissioning teams
• PMP or similar certification
