HRIS Analyst
Summary

HRIS Analyst (Six-month temporary full-time position)
The American Physical Society (APS) is a nonprofit membership organization devoted to advancing and diffusing the knowledge of physics through its outstanding research journals and scientific meetings, as well as its education, outreach, advocacy, and international activities. APS represents 50,000 members, including physicists in academia, national laboratories, and industry in the United States and throughout the world.
Position Summary:
The HRIS Analyst ensures APS people systems are accurate, compliant, and operating with integrity. This role serves as the systems steward for HR infrastructure - leading audits, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring compensation, payroll, and documentation processes are executed with precision. This position works closely with the HR team to support a high-performing, values-aligned workforce through reliable systems and strong operational discipline.
We are looking for a hands-on seasoned HRIS Analyst with a project management and consulting mindset who can make an immediate impact on our HR operations. This position will be both tactical and strategic in its work. This is a six-month temporary full-time position.
Responsibilities:
HRIS Oversight & Data Integrity
• Oversee and audit HR systems and interfaces (ADP, Payscale/Pay Factors, Culture Amp, Cornerstone, etc.).
• Conduct regular audits of system changes and ensure employee records are accurate and complete.
• Ensure documentation is properly filed and maintained within HRIS platforms.
• Identify and implement workflow improvements to strengthen data accuracy and compliance.
• Support system enhancements, implementations, and integrations as needed.
Compensation & Salary Administration
• Support annual salary and biannual bonus processes.
• Coordinate communications (including Slack campaigns) related to compensation cycles.
• Ensure all compensation process steps are completed accurately and on schedule.
• Audit compensation-related entries for accuracy and completeness.
Payroll Quality Assurance
• Conduct payroll audits and quality checks.
• Recommend improvements to internal controls and checks/balances.
• Partner with Finance, Benefits, and HR teams to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.
HR Operations & Process Documentation
• Monitor the HR inbox (as assigned), ensuring responses within three business days or sooner when necessary.
• Assist in auditing and updating the HR Manual to ensure policies reflect current practice.
• Support leave administration tracking and documentation, as applicable.
Compliance
• Assist with end-to-end immigration sponsorship (H-1B, TN, O-1, PERM/green card), including petition filing, labor certification, and LCA/PAF compliance with USCIS, DOL, and DHS regulations.
• Ensure all HR systems, data, and processes adhere to internal policies and relevant external compliance standards (e.g., data privacy, internal controls).
• Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to ensure HRIS-related compliance for compensation, payroll, and benefits administration.
• Support internal and external system audits by providing required data, documentation, and reports.
• Maintain and update documentation related to HRIS processes and system controls to ensure audit readiness.
Qualifications
Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business or related field strongly preferred. Directly applicable experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• 7+ years of progressive HRIS or HR Operations experience.
• Strong experience with ADP or comparable HRIS.
• Experience supporting multi-state, remote workforces.
• Demonstrated success conducting audits and improving operational processes.
• Experience supporting compensation administration cycles.
• Strong attention to detail and documentation discipline.
• Expert proficiency with ADP Workforce Now in several functional areas (Time & Attendance, PTO, Open Enrollment and Benefits)
• Advanced Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables) preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with Pay Factors/Payscale (Compensation Management System), Cornerstone (Learning Management System), Culture Amp (Employee Experience Platform), and Applicant tracking systems.
• Project management experience.
• Experience with project management tools (Asana) preferred.
• Experience supporting system implementations.
• Demonstrated ability to use artificial intelligence tools and platforms to automate, streamline, and enhance operational processes.
• Immigration sponsorship experience.
• Leave administration experience.

• Internal: Consults and acts as HR advisor to all leadership and staff

Location of work:
• APS follows a "remote first" work. The Senior HR Generalist is a "remote first" position that will be associated with the APS offices in the Washington, DC metro area. The position may require travel to meet - in person - with staff in the College Park, Maryland; Hauppauge, New York; and Washington, DC, offices.
Travel:
• The position may require up to 5% travel to business meetings and industry events, and may include international travel.
Salary:
The salary range for this position takes into account various factors influencing compensation decisions, such as skill sets, experience, training, and other business and organizational requirements. The salary listed within the specified ranges considers relevant experience. Our compensation philosophy at APS aims to maintain salaries at the midpoint of the market.
Hiring Range: $48,800.00-$67,100.00 (for a six-month temporary full-time position)
