Company Description

Novel Prep is seeking a passionate and experienced Game Design Instructor to support high school students in building competitive game design portfolios for college applications.

This role goes beyond technical instruction, we are looking for someone who can guide students through concept development, storytelling, and portfolio presentation, helping them stand out for top programs such as USC, NYU, and other leading game design schools.

Key Responsibilities

Mentor high school students in developing game design portfolios for college applications

Guide students through

  • Game concepts & mechanics (Gameplay Design)
  • Narrative & world-building
  • Player experience and interaction design
  • Visual development (concept sketches, mood boards, etc.)

Support students in structuring and presenting polished portfolios

Balance creative direction with technical tools (Unity, Unreal, etc.)

Qualifications

  • Background in Game Design, Interactive Media, Computer Science, or related fields
  • Experience with tools such as Unity, Unreal Engine, or similar platforms
  • Strong understanding of game design fundamentals (gameplay, narrative, UX)
  • Ability to mentor and communicate effectively with high school students

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience guiding students in portfolio development for college admissions
  • Familiarity with expectations from programs such as USC, NYU, Parsons, or similar
  • Strong storytelling and creative direction skills
  • Personal portfolio or completed game design projects

💼 Type: Part-time

💰 Compensation: $40–$50/hour (based on experience)
