Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager to lead the planning, execution, and delivery of mission-critical data center and building automation projects. The Construction Manager will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, manage schedules and budgets, ensure compliance with safety and quality standards, and drive successful integration of controls, low-voltage systems, UPS, power distribution, and cooling infrastructure. This role is responsible for maintaining uptime and reliability while delivering projects on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead construction planning, scheduling, and on-site coordination for data center and mission-critical facility projects from pre-construction through closeout.
- Manage subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure work is performed to specification, on schedule, and within budget.
- Oversee installation and integration of Building Automation Systems (BAS), controls, PLCs, HMIs, and other low-voltage systems, ensuring proper coordination with mechanical and electrical trades.
- Coordinate commissioning activities, functional testing, and system validation for UPS, power distribution, cooling systems, and critical infrastructure to confirm systems meet performance and redundancy requirements.
- Develop, monitor, and report project schedules, budgets, and progress to stakeholders; identify risks and implement mitigation strategies to preserve project critical-path and uptime objectives.
- Enforce strict safety, quality control, and regulatory compliance on all sites, including site access, lockout/tagout, and other mission-critical procedures.
- Collaborate with design engineers, integrators, and commissioning agents to resolve technical issues, optimize system performance, and ensure constructability of control and automation systems.
- Manage procurement and material tracking for long-lead and critical-path components such as UPS units, switchgear, chillers, and specialized controls equipment.
- Provide technical leadership on control system integration, data interfaces, and handover documentation to operations teams; ensure clear as-built records and O&M manuals.
- Conduct regular site inspections, weekly coordination meetings, and stakeholder updates; maintain accurate site documentation, RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
- Drive continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned, implementing best practices for automation and commissioning, and mentoring junior staff.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years experience managing construction projects, with experience on data center or other mission-critical facilities.
- Experience overseeing projects with Building Automation Systems (BAS), controls, PLCs, HMIs, and integration of low-voltage systems.
- Knowledge of UPS systems, power distribution, cooling infrastructure (CRAC/CHW systems), and associated commissioning processes is a plus.
- Experience working alongside commissioning, functional testing, and validation of mission-critical systems to achieve required uptime and redundancy.
- Solid understanding of electrical and mechanical construction practices, NFPA, NEC, and other applicable codes and standards.
- Excellent project management skills, including schedule and budget management, risk mitigation, and contractor coordination.
- Certifications such as PMP, NICET, or commissioning credentials are a plus.
