Our client, a renowned player in the interactive entertainment industry, is seeking an innovative and experienced Lead Sound Designer to join their award-winning audio team in Virginia Beach, Virginia, US . This role is central to crafting the immersive auditory experiences that define our client's cutting-edge games. You will lead a team of talented sound professionals, guiding the creative vision and technical execution of all audio assets, from concept through final implementation. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of game audio pipelines, exceptional sound design skills, and strong leadership capabilities.
Key Responsibilities: Lead and mentor a team of sound designers, fostering a collaborative and creative environment. Oversee the conceptualization, design, implementation, and mixing of all in-game audio elements, including sound effects, music, and voiceovers. Collaborate closely with game designers, narrative teams, engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate audio seamlessly into the gameplay experience. Develop and refine audio systems and pipelines to optimize efficiency and quality. Manage audio asset creation, ensuring adherence to technical specifications, creative direction, and project timelines. Conduct regular audio reviews, providing constructive feedback and ensuring alignment with the overall project vision. Stay at the forefront of audio technology, middleware (e.g., Wwise, FMOD), and game development trends. Manage the audio budget and resource allocation for projects. Source and direct freelance talent or external audio vendors as needed. Contribute to the overall soundscape and audio polish of titles, ensuring a high level of immersion and emotional impact. Champion the importance of audio within the development team. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Sound Design, Music Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Minimum of 6-8 years of professional experience in sound design for video games, with at least 2 years in a lead or senior role. Demonstrated portfolio showcasing exceptional sound design skills across multiple genres and platforms. Expertise with industry-standard digital audio workstations (DAWs) such as Pro Tools, Reaper, or Cubase. Proficiency with game audio middleware (Wwise, FMOD) and engine integration (Unreal Engine, Unity). Strong understanding of audio principles, acoustics, signal processing, and mixing techniques. Proven experience leading and motivating creative teams. Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Passion for video games and a deep understanding of what makes compelling game audio. Experience working in the Virginia Beach, Virginia, US area or willingness to relocate and work a hybrid schedule.
