Cloud Systems Engineer

SMX is looking for a talented Cloud Systems Engineer to join our team and support our customer at Patuxent River Naval Air Station in southern Maryland. As a Cloud Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for a range of exciting daily operations including:

• On-Premise Cloud Management: Design, deploy, and maintain our on-premise cloud infrastructure, ensuring high availability and reliability to support mission-critical applications.
• Hybrid Cloud Integration: Seamlessly integrate on-premise systems with leading public cloud services such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud to enhance performance and optimize costs.
• Performance and Security: Proactively monitor and enhance the performance, security, and cost-efficiency of our cloud environment, managing access controls and protecting sensitive data.
• Automation: Drive automation of cloud operations, including provisioning, configuration, and deployment processes, enabling efficient resource management.
• Collaboration: Partner effectively with development, operations, and security teams to facilitate application deployment, ensuring smooth and reliable cloud solutions that align with business objectives.
• Troubleshooting: Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex issues within on-premise and hybrid cloud environments, minimizing downtime and ensuring operational continuity.

Required Skills & Experience

• Clearance Required: Top Secret, with Interim TS required to start.
• Security+ or another comparable certification for compliance with DoD 8140.
• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred.
• In lieu of degree, high-level Cloud Certifications (AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Google Associate Cloud Engineer) may be considered.
• 2+ years of proven experience in cloud services, with a solid background in building and designing web services in the cloud.
• Strong knowledge of virtualization technologies like VMware, alongside experience with containerization tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• A solid understanding of networking, including virtual networks and general network management.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, YML, or BASH is beneficial for automation of tasks and cloud infrastructure management.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or AWS CloudFormation to automate the setup and management of cloud resources.

Desired Skills & Experience

• Strong understanding of DevOps principles and experience with CI/CD pipelines.
• In-depth knowledge of cloud security best practices and hands-on experience implementing security controls.
• Experience with on-premise cloud platforms like VMware Cloud Foundation or OpenStack.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively across various teams and stakeholders.
• Experience with ServiceNow implementation and management is an asset.

The proposed salary for this position ranges from $87,700 to $146,100 USD.
