A Day in the Life

As a Lead Payment Engineer, you will play a critical role in crafting innovative, cloud-enabled payment solutions alongside empowered teams that embrace adaptability. Join our forward-thinking team as we drive advancements in the payments industry, delivering cutting-edge cloud-based solutions for both in-person and digital commerce. We specialize in developing PCI-compliant services to facilitate secure and swift transaction flows that power the future of payment applications in the cloud. You will also implement Site Reliability Engineering practices to create resilient and scalable platforms while sharing knowledge and mentorship with your peers, supporting junior team members, and promoting organizational efficiency.

What You'll Do

  • Architect, design, and develop scalable and secure cloud-native payment applications, including:
  • Pay App in the Cloud
  • PCI-Compliant Cardholder Data Environment (CDE)
  • Payment Terminal Management System services including Payment APIs
  • Take ownership of end-to-end feature development and maintenance of real-time transaction systems.
  • Strategically partner with engineering leadership and cross-functional teams to establish technical direction, set roadmaps, and prioritize major initiatives.
  • Lead the development and delivery of high-impact projects that often span multiple teams and systems, addressing complex problem-solving challenges.
  • Mentorship is key: inspire and coach engineers at all levels, fostering a culture of technical expertise, innovation, and inclusive collaboration.
  • Contribute to excellence by authoring and reviewing significant technical documents, driving the adoption of best practices.
  • Work closely with cloud, device, and security engineers to ensure compliance with PCI-DSS standards.
  • Develop resilient, event-driven services using AWS and other serverless technologies.
  • Create, configure, and manage Kubernetes clusters at scale, implementing best practices and managing service meshes.
  • Align development standards with the Solutions Architecture team in collaboration with our Engineering team.
  • Support collaboration with the Hertz Security team.
  • Perform technical reviews, document designs, and mentor junior engineers on cloud-native practices and secure coding methodologies.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering is required.
  • 8 to 10 years of hands-on experience with AWS cloud technologies.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to effectively work with cross-departmental teams.
  • Experience designing cloud architectures with automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, and CloudFormation.
  • Solid understanding of secure software development methodologies and a Code First mindset.
  • Expertise in RESTful APIs, JSON, YAML, as well as authentication and encryption practices.
  • Proficient programming skills in Java, Python, scripting, CloudFormation, Terraform, or comparable configuration languages (e.g., Ansible, Chef).
  • Experience in software development, systems engineering, integration, and testing within tactical platforms.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of CI/CD processes, including debugging and integration tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a self-starting approach that thrives in a remote work environment.
  • Experience in creating, deploying, and managing large-scale Kubernetes clusters while applying standards and best practices.
  • Familiarity with deploying AWS Cloud Service Provider architecture and related best practices.
  • Understanding of continuous integration and continuous deployment methodologies.
  • Ability to collaborate across functions and locations with various stakeholders.
  • Flexible and adaptable; capable of working effectively in ambiguous situations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a results-driven mentality.
  • Ability to work independently with a goal-oriented approach.
  • Ability to see the big picture while leveraging critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional organizational, time management, delegation, and prioritization skills.
