About the Role:

The purpose of ENG Camera Operator is to work within the Virgin Media Television Broadcast Operations Department to assist with delivering content to be broadcast within our flagship programming. The role involves working collaboratively with reporters, producers, directors to ensure that deadlines are met. The individual will work cross departmentally on a range of programming from News, Current Affairs and Sport to Commercial.

Specific Tasks and Duties:

  • Comprehensive knowledge in the operation of ENG (Electronic News Gathering) cameras and all integrated ancillaries

  • An excellent understanding of the news gathering process together with a proficiency in sound, lighting, field editing (Avid News cutter)

  • Ensure that footage is properly framed and camera levels set to meet broadcast standards

  • Be able to operate cellular bonding units (LiveU), emerging technologies and developments in alternate methods of content delivery

  • Work across a variety of Virgin Media Television programming such as News, Sport, factual & documentaries.

  • Good judgement and be able to meet tight deadlines

  • Trouble shoot technical issues that may arise in the field

  • An excellent knowledge of audio and visual principles

  • Adhere to Health and Safety to minimise risk in the working environment

  • Be a team player and display a common-sense approach to the job in changing situations

  • Shifts may include travel throughout the country resulting in overnight stays

  • Have a full clean driving licence.

Skills & Expertise:

  • Relevant ENG Camera operator experience

  • Excellent knowledge of audio/video principles

  • Experience in a shared storage environment/network systems

  • Problem solving skills and the ability to show initiative and proactively engage in implementing solutions when appropriate.

  • Experience of working under pressure and to tight deadlines.

  • The ability to work flexible hours

  • Able to work effectively across several teams and develop productive, trusting working relationships

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate appropriately at all levels

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team and without direct supervision.
