POSITION TITLE: Accountant – Audit Manager

LOCATION: Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire

REPORTS TO: WEECAP Regional Finance Director

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

Winrock International works with people around the world to increase economic opportunity, sustain natural resources, and protect the environment. Winrock is implementing the Women’s Economic Empowerment through Cashew Processing Program (WEECAP), a five-year initiative funded by the Mastercard Foundation and implemented in Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, and Senegal in partnership with CARE Canada, GIZ, and Open Capital Advisors.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Accountant – Audit Manager will focus primarily on auditing, reviewing, and validating supporting financial documentation for the quarterly financial reports submitted to the Mastercard Foundation. The role is centered on ensuring that all expenditures are fully supported, compliant, and audit-ready, rather than day-to-day transaction processing.

This position strengthens internal controls and documentation quality by conducting rigorous reviews of financial support packages, ensuring alignment with Mastercard Foundation requirements and Winrock policies. The Accountant will work closely with project staff, regional finance teams, and home office to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timely submission of quarterly reporting documentation.

The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, experienced in donor-funded audit preparation, and fluent in both French and English.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Quarterly Reporting Documentation Review (Primary Responsibility)
  • Audit and review all supporting documents for quarterly financial reports submitted to the Mastercard Foundation.
  • Verify accuracy, completeness, eligibility, and compliance of expenses against donor requirements and approved budgets.
  • Ensure supporting documentation (invoices, receipts, contracts, payroll, procurement files, payment evidence, etc.) meets Mastercard Foundation standards.
  • Conduct consistency checks between accounting records, supporting documents, and financial summaries.
  • Prepare and maintain complete, well-organized, and audit-ready documentation packages for quarterly submission.
  1. DocumentationQualityControl & Internal Review
  • Perform pre-submission quality assurance checks on financial documentation before review by Finance Director , Regional Office , or HO teams.
  • Identify gaps, errors, or compliance risks and coordinate corrective actions with relevant staff.
  • Maintain structured digital and physical filing systems to ensure traceability and ease of audit review.
  • Develop and use documentation checklists to standardize quarterly review processes.
  1. AuditPreparation& Compliance
  • Lead preparation of documentation bundles for internal, external, and donor audits, with strong emphasis on Mastercard Foundation audits.
  • Monitor compliance with Winrock financial policies, procurement rules, and donor regulations.
  • Flag high-risk transactions, missing documentation, or non-compliance issues to Senior Finance staff.
  • Support implementation and strengthening of internal controls related to documentation and reporting.
  1. Coordination &TechnicalSupport
  • Serve as the focal point for financial documentation related to Mastercard Foundation quarterly reporting.
  • Coordinate with project teams to obtain clarifications, corrections, or additional support documents.
  • Provide clear, bilingual (French & English) guidance to staff on documentation and compliance requirements.
  • Support knowledge sharing and continuous improvement of documentation workflows across WEECAP countries.

  1. Limited Financial Systems Support (SecondaryResponsibility)
  • Support verification and review (not primary entry) of transactions recorded in QuickBooks and/or Deltek Costpoint to ensure alignment with supporting documents.
  • Assist Finance teams during month-end and quarter-end close as needed, focusing on documentation validation rather than processing.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Professional certification (CPA, ACCA, CA, or equivalent) is an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting, audit, or financial compliance roles.
  • Strong experience with audit preparation, document review, and donor compliance.
  • Proven experience working on donor-funded projects, preferably including Mastercard Foundation or similar institutional donors.
  • Demonstrated ability to review and validate large volumes of financial supporting documents.

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and donor compliance frameworks.
  • Proficiency in accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Deltek Costpoint).
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong documentation management capabilities.
  • Familiarity with internal controls and audit requirements.

Language Requirements

  • Fluency in French and English (written and spoken) is required.
