The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and systems-oriented Assistant Research Librarian to join HSF Kramer. Working within a collaborative regional team, you will support our legal professionals by delivering high-quality research, information, and library services.

Standard hours are rostered between 8am and 6pm, with some flexibility required to meet client and team needs.

What you'll do:

RESEARCH SERVICES

  • Contribute to research services through regular shifts on the national roster, including on-site reference assistance

  • Provide legal and business reference and research services to internal clients, including sector and industry research

  • Set up and maintain media, regulatory, and other alerting services

  • Provide inter-library loan services and facilitate off-site collection retrievals

  • Support collaboration with Business Development and Practice Groups to understand information needs

  • Assist with the development and maintenance of Research Centre policies and procedures

LIBRARY MANAGEMENT

  • Assist with processing, classification, and cataloguing of new materials

  • Support administration of library infrastructure (Library Management System, Resource Management System, media and regulatory alert platforms)

  • Help maintain a dynamic Intranet site to maximise resource accessibility and return on investment

  • Play a collaborative role in the implementation of new systems

COLLECTION & PROMOTION

  • Provide recommendations for new title purchases and maintain the physical collection

  • Liaise with external suppliers on technical, content, or access issues

  • Assist with Research Centre tours, inductions, and promotion of services

  • Support the upskilling of our people in the responsible and effective use of AI in research

  • Continually learn about and promote key features of subscription resources

STRATEGY & GENERAL

  • Contribute to national Research strategy and goals as set by the Senior Research Manager and Senior Research Librarians

  • Contribute to integrated Knowledge, Learning and Research solutions and the implementation of firm strategy

  • Participate in projects and knowledge sharing as required

What you’ll bring:

ESSENTIAL

  • Tertiary qualifications in librarianship (ALIA accredited), or progress toward this qualification combined with relevant experience

  • Understanding of the elements of sound research, with a willingness to develop legal and business research abilities

  • Experience with library and request management systems, Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Teams

  • Exposure to online resources for research and alerting

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and team skills with a client service orientation

  • Flexibility to vary working hours to meet client and team needs

  • An innovative mindset, curious about AI and emerging technologies.

DESIRABLE

  • Understanding of court and legislative structures

  • Experience conducting business and industry research

  • Understanding of professional services firm environments

  • Experience with SharePoint, PowerBI, library management systems, and current awareness best practice

  • Basic financial management experience
