Job Title: Electrical Engineer II (Mid-Level)

Location: Richmond, Virginia (Hybrid / Remote Flexibility Available)

Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire

Compensation: $80,000 – $120,000

Position Overview

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer II to support the development of reliable and high-performance power distribution equipment. This role is well-suited for someone who is detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced engineering environment.

The selected candidate will contribute to electrical design efforts, documentation, and system validation, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure product quality, safety, and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute electrical design tasks at the product level, including component selection, thermal considerations, mechanical integration support, and interconnect design
  • Apply working knowledge of analog and digital circuits, magnetics, and thermal management
  • Develop technical specifications and engineering documentation for power protection and distribution systems
  • Design switchboard power and control circuitry
  • Create and maintain design records, including schematics and bills of materials (BOMs)
  • Assist in integrating third-party components into electrical systems
  • Support the creation of manufacturing documentation, test plans, and engineering reports
  • Provide ongoing engineering support for both new product development and existing systems
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems and subsystems through hands-on analysis
  • Assist with product certification processes in coordination with NRTL standards (UL, CSA, IEC)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
  • At least 2 years of experience in electrical design or product development

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (MSEE)
  • Experience working with UL 891 switchboards
  • Familiarity with engineering change processes (ECNs), BOM management, and documentation systems
  • Experience using AutoCAD and ERP platforms
  • Hands-on experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, and network analyzers
  • Knowledge of three-phase power systems and electrical distribution
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills
  • Proven problem-solving ability in laboratory or testing environments
  • Familiarity with UL, CSA, and IEC safety and EMC standards
  • Understanding of environmental, reliability, and safety requirements in commercial or industrial application
