Join Our Team! Become a vital part of HII's Global Security (GS) group. We are looking for an experienced Welder to support the Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces (COMUSFLTFORCOM) Berthing and Messing Program. This program is integral in operating duty crew berthing barges that provide essential living and working spaces for crews during ship overhaul and repair periods. *This position is contingent upon contract award*
Key Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance and repairs on metal components aboard berthing barges.
- Fabricate and replace metal parts using various welding techniques.
- Conduct welding tasks including preheating, brazing, and flame cutting.
- Ensure safety by following NAVSEA and OSHA standards during operations.
- Complete work in compliance with OEM specifications and safety requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent, plus 4+ years of welding experience in marine or industrial settings.
- Must possess your own hand tools.
- Proficient in various welding positions and processes (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW).
- Able to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Experience working in shipyards and understanding safety regulations.
- Familiar with metal cutting, forging, and fitting techniques.
- Basic mechanical knowledge to assist with machinist tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Navy berthing barges and shipboard systems.
- Knowledge of OSHA and NAVSEA hot work requirements.
- Familiarity with secure facility protocols.
- Experience in Quality Control or NDT.
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift and transport heavy items (50 lbs minimum).
- Comfortable working in various environments, including confined spaces and aboard ships.
- Willing to wear PPE and follow safety training.
- Periodic travel may be required for site inspections.
Work Hours: Regular schedule from Monday to Friday, 0700-1530. Overtime and weekend work may be necessary for urgent tasks.
