Job description

The De Beers Group has an opportunity within the Protective Services Department at the Yellowknife Office, Northwest Territories for a highly motivated Security Clearance Administrator Reporting to the Protective Services Official, Assurance.  The incumbent will be involved in all stages of Security Clearance for De Beers Canada.  The ideal candidate is efficient, with a strong attention to detail. This position may require ad hoc travel to Gahcho Kué Mine (in the Northwest Territories).

This is a contract position with an end date of October 2027, with the possibility of extension. 

Key responsibilities:

The Security Clearance Administrator duties include but are not limited to:

  • Working closely with and taking guidance and direction from the Protective Services Official, Assurance on matters relative to the security pre-employment and in-employment screening programs;
  • Reviewing criminal history information and determining candidate access suitability by consistently applying relevant company policies and making sound decisions;
  • Managing site access compliance and facilitating Right Of Entry (ROE) for all mines, project sites and offices;
  • Managing and maintaining software systems to minimize clearance-processing time and to facilitate accurate records to meet or exceed audit standards;
  • Ensuring compliance with PIPEDA and privacy policies, including the observation of document retention and destruction periods;
  • Ensuring business wide compliance with screening policies and standards;
  • Providing on-going assessment of clearance documents, policies, and systems to align with changing business needs;
  • Actively developing and participating in strategies to protect human resources and assets;
  • Developing and submitting relevant information, statistics, and identifiable trends for intelligence analysis;
  • Utilizing and managing the department incident reporting and Secure document control systems and conducting detailed background investigations to help identify persons at risk, as required; and
  • Assisting with the day to day activities of the PSF such as but not limited to: answering phone calls, clearing rooms, shipments and clearing personnel and departing visitors.

The role is based within the Product Splitting facility (PSF) in Yellowknife.

  • Proven proficiency in office management procedures and protocols, including document control and data entry;
  • Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Suite of programs;
  • Experience working in a cross cultural (indigenous) environment;
  • Experience working in the mining industry, on a remote site;
  • Previous experience working in security or law enforcement would be an asset; and
  • Knowledge of relevant security legislation, including PIPEDA, Criminal Code of Canada and Human Rights Legislation would be an asset.

Preference will be given to Members of the Deninu Kué, Lutsel K’e Dene First Nation, North Slave Métis Alliance, Northwest Territory Métis Nation, Tlicho Government, or Yellowknives Dene First Nation, followed by non-indigenous residents of the Northwest Territories or a resident of the Northwest Territories.
