Job description

Title:Electrical Engineer

Program Summary

Kord, a wholly owned subsidiary of KBR, is a leader in advanced defense solutions with a strong focus on directed energy and high energy laser (HEL) technologies. Our HEL programs support the U.S. Department of Defense in developing, integrating, testing, and fielding cutting-edge laser weapon systems that enhance national security and deliver decisive battlefield advantages. These efforts require deep technical expertise in electrical engineering, systems integration, and real-time performance of laser subsystems under demanding operational conditions.

JOB SUMMARY

The Electrical Engineer will research, develop, plan, and design electrical products and systems. Apply principles and techniques of electrical engineering to complete engineering projects and solve engineering problems in all phases of design, development, integration/ implementation, and analysis, testing and participating in design reviews and evaluations. Requires progressively responsible experience in the defense industry equivalent level of knowledge and performance. Works under independently and with little guidance.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research, design, modify, develop, and evaluate electrical systems, products, components, and applications by applying fundamental electrical engineering principles.
  • Apply electrical engineering principles in area of system to include RF, power, AC/DC circuit, communications, and software principles.
  • Confirm system's and components' capabilities by designing testing methods; testing properties and conducts testing events
  • Assure product quality by designing electrical testing methods; testing finished products and system capabilities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues relating to RF, power, AC/DC circuitry, communications, and software.
  • Evaluate field installations and recommend design modifications to eliminate system malfunctions.
  • Coordinate with management and/or customers as needed for testing and design reviews
  • Conduct research and aid in authoring studies.
  • Develop standards and guidelines for tasks being performed
  • Write necessary engineering documentation, i.e., drawings, project specifications, procedures, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree with major in Engineering or related science, technology, or engineering discipline from accredited school or university
  • At least 7+ years relevant experience in electrical engineering or related disciplines
  • US Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
  • Effectively communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner
  • Experience designing, developing, building, and verifying printed circuit boards.
  • Proficiency with modeling and simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW, or similar.
  • Ability to navigate and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and interface requirements.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex system behaviors.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with engineers, program management, and government customers.
  • Able and willing to work in an agile development environment.
  • Able to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Able to work in an active development lab environment
  • Able to clearly communicate, express, and understand complex information.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree or the equivalent in Electrical Engineering or related science, technology, or engineering discipline from accredited school or university
  • At least 10+ years relevant experience in electrical engineering or related disciplines
  • Understanding of military specifications and certifications, raw material selection, engineering change process, design modification, use of CAD/CAM systems and manufacturing process development.
  • Experience with High-Energy Lasers, directed energy, optical, or precision pointing systems.
  • Background in real-time systems, embedded software, FPGA-based control, or high-speed data acquisition.
  • An understanding of electro-optical systems, beam control technologies, thermal management systems, or power management and storage systems.
  • Knowledge of DoD systems engineering processes, requirements development, and verification/validation.
  • Able to analyze and research complex to semi-complex technological issues.
  • Prior experience supporting Army, Navy, Air Force, or OSD HEL programs
