Job description

Mechanical Engineer

High-rise & Complex Buildings | Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

What if the systems you design were the reason a building breathed, cooled and protected itself perfectly?

As Mechanical Engineer within our High-Rise & Complex Buildings team in Malaysia, you will take ownership of mechanical systems design across a varied portfolio of building projects, from air conditioning and ventilation to fire protection, plumbing and specialist systems. You will manage the full design cycle from concept through to site, working closely with engineers across disciplines to deliver coordinated, high-quality outcomes.

High-rise buildings, done well, are one of the most powerful tools we have for building sustainable, liveable cities. With more than 300 tall building projects globally, our High-rise & Complex Buildings team integrates structural, MEP, facade, digital and sustainability expertise from concept to completion, because the relationship between a building’s structure and its services is where real value is won or lost. Data-driven, computationally advanced, and benchmarked against decades of global experience, we design with purpose for the people and cities that need these buildings to perform for generations. If you want work that genuinely challenges you, this is where you come.

The role

As Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for the full mechanical design lifecycle across a varied portfolio of building projects in Malaysia. From early-stage concept through to site completion, you will design and specify complex mechanical systems, manage the tender and contract administration process, and collaborate with engineers across other disciplines to deliver integrated, high-performance buildings.

This is a role for someone who takes ownership of their work from drawing board to commissioning, and who wants to see the direct impact of their engineering in the built environment.

How you will contribute

Mechanical systems design

  • Design and specify mechanical systems for buildings, including air conditioning, mechanical ventilation, active fire protection systems, cold water and sanitary plumbing systems, swimming pool filtration systems and gas utility
  • Prepare design-related documents including design calculations, design briefs, technical drawings and authority submissions
  • Collaborate with engineers across other disciplines, clients’ project teams and external consultants to coordinate and detail project design requirements
  • Undertake other duties as assigned from time to time

Tender and contract management

  • Manage the tender process, including cost estimations, tender documents, technical specifications, tender evaluation and tender reporting
  • Manage contract administration in accordance with PAM or IEM contracts, including construction monitoring and site supervision

Site and coordination

  • Attend technical meetings, review contractor’s technical submissions, witness key testing / commissioning activities.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and registration as a Graduate Engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM)
  • At least 2 years of building design experience in a multidisciplinary or M&E consultancy firm
  • Familiarity with Malaysian building legislation, Malaysia Standards, regulations, Codes of Practice, local council requirements, BOMBA requirements, NFPA, ASHRAE, and authority submission guidelines and processes
  • A positive work attitude and a genuine willingness to learn
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience in high-rise and complex buildings is preferred
  • Candidates with more extensive experience and deeper technical knowledge will be considered for more senior positions
