Job description

To draft, review and implement the corporate strategy as well as the as the strategic projects and partnerships in support of the overall business and team and to facilitate the process of defining and refining the corporate strategy by working closely with Masdar’s executive team as well as the shareholder group.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support in developing and delivering the annual operational business plans and KPIs for the unit and contribute to performance monitoring and reporting for the unit so that overall objectives are met.
  • Support – in conjunction with divisions and departments – the process of developing, refining and implementing a corporate strategy that is aligned to Masdar’s vision and mission based on guidance from the CEO and the directives of shareholders, strategic and financial analysis of the corporate portfolio, and market intelligence.
  • Ensure appropriate engagement with all relevant functions in the definition of the corporate strategy to achieve appropriate alignment between the strategy and the annual business planning and budgeting process.
  • Support– in conjunction with divisions and departments – the strategic planning process ensuring that the corporate strategy is cascaded to performance management and translated into annual operational business plans for all divisions and departments
  • Facilitate– in conjunction with divisions and departments - the prioritization of corporate initiatives that are aligned to the corporate strategy.
  • Ensure – in conjunction with finance, alignment between business plans and financial budgets to ensure that the financial resources are available and adequate to support Masdar’s short, medium and long term plans.
  • Support the formulation of strategic advice to the Board and / or the Investment/Executive Committee members on the preparation and implementation of strategic plans, investment strategies and portfolio management.
  • Generate insights on new and existing strategic partnerships, assisting senior management in prioritizing opportunities, leading the actual partnerships with counterparties, and coordinating inputs.
  • As and when required, lead strategic partnerships in order to ensure that they deliver the required objectives.
  • Oversee the in-house investment research function ensuring the provision of reliable and timely intelligence and insight to support the delivery of Masdar’s strategy and priorities, and enable effective decision-making.
  • Lead the provision of investment/market research and intelligence support to senior management and divisions in order to create value to the business through optimizing the management of existing investments and the selection of new investments.
  • Ensure that investment and market research is being shared and discussed with the Portfolio Management department to provide insight and perspective on investments being processed through the ILM process.
  • Support strategic, sensitive, and high-level corporate initiatives that maximise value to Masdar.
  • Organize and supervise the activities and work of the team to ensure that all work is carried out in an efficient manner which is consistent with operating policies and procedures.
  • Manage the team by overseeing their performance management, recruitment, training and development to ensure high levels of engagement and competence and motivated work environment.
  • Ensure relationships with service level providers are managed smoothly and effectively in a way that guarantees that Masdar is provided with quality and timely services, in line with relevant service level agreements.
  • As and when required by management, personally manage key relationships/negotiations with relevant internal and external stakeholders in order to ensure the negotiation and agreement of favourable deals and agreements that safeguard Masdar’s best interests while ensuring the delivery
    of necessary needs/goals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or relevant Master’s degree from a top-tier, internationally recognized higher education institution
  • Bachelor’s degree in business management, economics, or finance from an internationally recognized university

Required / Preferred Experience

  • At least 8 years of experience in progressively complex roles in a leading multi-national strategy consulting company with experience in various sectors or investment, portfolio management, or private equity experience in the energy sector.
  • Relevant experience in renewable energy and/or the broader energy industry.

  • Ability to manage cross-functional teams
  • Knowledge and expertise in corporate and investment strategy development and best practice strategic planning methodologies and concepts
  • Knowledge and expertise in macroeconomics and macro-sectorial analyses, and associated economic modelling, forecasting and research tools and models
  • Good understanding of Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030 and Economic Plan
  • Understanding of value creation within the sector, and the means through which value can be effectively monitored and measured
  • Strong business acumen and entrepreneurial thinking
