Christman Constructors, Inc. (CCI) is looking for Fireproofing Sprayers in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
This position requires union membership. We will support qualified candidates in becoming union members.
A Fireproofer (also called a fireproofing applicator or fire protection installer) is a construction professional who applies fire-resistant materials to structural elements to protect buildings from fire damage and ensure compliance with safety codes.
What You Will Do:
Surface preparation: Visually inspect surfaces to receive fireproofing ensure proper adhesion of fireproofing materials prior to installation.
Application of fireproofing: Use spray applied techniques to coat steel beams, columns, and other structural components
Inspection and quality control: Check thickness, coverage, and adhesion to meet project specifications and safety standards
Equipment operation: Operate sprayers, lifts (boom, scissor), and other access equipment to reach high or confined areas
Safety compliance: Follow strict safety procedures, wear PPE, and maintain a clean, hazard-free work environment
Record-keeping: Document work completed, materials used, and any issues encountered

Travel: Must have reliable transportation. Must be willing to travel 60 miles a day dependent on project location relative to where the employee lives.
Required Education and Experience
Minimum two years in construction carpentry experience.
Union membership required.
Preferred Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum two years in construction carpentry experience.
Skills and Qualifications
Technical knowledge: Understanding of fireproofing materials, application methods, and building codes not necessary but preferred.
Attention to detail: Precision in measurement and application to ensure consistent coverage
Physical stamina: Ability to work at heights, and in confined spaces for an eight-hour shift.
Communication: Ability to coordinate with contractors, supervisors, and clients
Certifications: Forklift, lift operation, and OSHA 10 or 30 are a plus
