Job description
Insight Global is seeking a Lead SCADA Engineer/Project Manager to join one of Virginia's largest energy providers. This person will lead and manage all SCADA and communication system engineering activities for the CVOW offshore wind farm—including design, fabrication, installation, commissioning, documentation, and operational readiness. This will require the ability to travel between Richmond VA to the client HQ as well as Norfolk for the onshore operations of this project.
Responsibilities include
- Lead SCADA system commissioning for a major, multi‑asset offshore wind project. - Act as technical expert for SCADA, controls, communications, and project networks.
- Coordinate between engineers, project managers, stakeholders, and equipment suppliers.
- Frequently on-site to manage installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of: -- SCADA systems -- ACMS (Asset Condition Monitoring Systems) -- HMI (Human‑Machine Interfaces) -- Telecom networks & monitoring equipment -- Navigational aids - Manage work in energized areas using PTW/LOTO/SIMOPS protocols.
- Track schedule progress and provide updates to management.
- Review and produce deliverables: plans, reports, as‑builts, procedures. - Coordinate NERC‑related documentation and compliance.
- Approve work plans, procedures, certificates, and system validations before energization.
- Represent the owner during inspections, audits, walkdowns, and acceptance testing.
- Validate systems (SCADA, ACMS, HMI, networks, etc.) prior to service energization. Knowledge of the below leads to the successful candidate:
- Basics of three‑phase electrical systems - Wind turbine generator controls & operations - Multi‑network SCADA architectures for separated power trains
- Substation design principles - NERC requirements affecting SCADA and communication systems
Other Key Notes
- Open to a candidate living in VA, Beach, Richmond, VA, or Norfolk, VA.
The expectation would be relocate to one of these spots or, 50% -60% travel.
Ex: 2 weeks onsite, 2 weeks remote rotation.
- Daily per diem 7x a week
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Degree required (or equivalent experience in lieu of degree): Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical degrees
- 7+ years SCADA and communication system experience (utility-scale preferred).
- Experience supporting large‑scale energy projects (generation, transmission, or offshore wind).
- Strong skills in managing SCADA commissioning activities.
- Deep knowledge of controls engineering, communication networks, and industrial systems.
- Ability to work regularly on-site to oversee field activities.
- Familiarity with PTW, LOTO, SIMOPS procedures.
- Strong documentation and compliance skills (including NERC).
- Ability to manage and authorize SCADA work in energized environments.
