Mid-Level Network Engineer

CDM Smith is eager to welcome a talented Network Engineer with a focus on network security and enterprise networking to join our team. This role offers a hands-on opportunity to help secure, operate, and scale our global IT infrastructure. We’re looking for a networking generalist who thrives in dynamic environments, working across firewalls, routers, switches, and wireless platforms both on-site and in the cloud.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and optimize enterprise firewalls, VPNs, and network security policies for on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
• Configure and manage Palo Alto Networks firewalls to support secure global connectivity.
• Analyze and troubleshoot complex network performance, availability, and security challenges.
• Support enterprise switching and routing environments, particularly with Cisco SD WAN routing and Aruba switches.
• Administer Aruba wireless networks to ensure reliable and secure connectivity in office and campus environments.
• Manage Aruba Central for centralized monitoring and network visibility.
• Implement Aruba ClearPass for network access, authentication, and policy enforcement.
• Provide operational support for cloud environments, focusing on Azure, with assistance in AWS and Oracle as needed.
• Collaborate with the Information Security team to ensure compliance through proper firewall rules and network segmentation.
• Work closely with Infrastructure and Application teams to ensure reliable connectivity across various workloads.
• Evaluate and recommend modern firewall, switching, wireless, and network security solutions.
• Promote automation and standardization within firewall and network operations.
• Stay updated on emerging networking threats, technologies, and vendor advancements, suggesting relevant improvements.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience (3 years); additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Willingness to travel domestically and/or internationally as necessary, depending on project needs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Zero Trust architectures, network segmentation, or secure access design.
• Familiarity with Aruba Central and Aruba ClearPass for network management and policy enforcement.
• Experience managing Cisco SD WAN.
• Knowledge of SDN, network automation, or infrastructure as code using tools like Python or Ansible.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., Palo Alto Network Security Professional, CCNA/CCNP, Microsoft Azure Network Engineer Associate).
• Experience operating networks within large, distributed enterprise environments.

Skills and Abilities

• Hands-on experience with firewall platforms, primarily Palo Alto Networks.
• Strong background in routing, switching, VPNs, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and RADIUS/TACACS+ protocols.
• Practical experience supporting multiple network domains (security, switching, wireless, WAN).
• Expertise in enterprise switching platforms, preferably HPE/Aruba.
• Experience supporting Wi-Fi networks, including troubleshooting and deployment of access points.
• Familiarity with SD WAN technologies in enterprise environments.
• Understanding cloud networking concepts.
• Exceptional troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
• Able to work independently while collaborating effectively with team members.

Pay Range: Minimum $78,478, Maximum $129,459

Additional Compensation: All bonuses are discretionary.

Work Location Options: Fully Remote or Hybrid options may be considered for the successful candidate.
