Job description

Job Title: Model Based Systems Engineer Job Description Join a collaborative systems engineering team developing a next-generation specialized sensor system integrated onto a submarine platform. In this role, you will use a model-based systems engineering (MBSE) approach with Cameo Systems Modeler and SysML to connect operational intent to system and subsystem requirements, interfaces, and integration and test artifacts. You will contribute to an agile, incremental development program that maintains formal architecture and requirements baselines suitable for major design reviews such as PDRs and CDRs, while helping to define software and hardware requirements for a new, cutting-edge sensor system rather than maintaining legacy solutions. Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain model-based system and subsystem work products using Cameo Systems Modeler within an MBSE framework.
  • Execute requirements development using SysML, including creating and updating use case diagrams, activity diagrams, requirements diagrams, block definition diagrams (BDDs), and internal block diagrams (IBDs).
  • Translate system architecture and behavioral descriptions into clear, concise, and testable requirements.
  • Build and maintain mid-level system specifications and detailed subsystem-level specifications that support implementation and verification.
  • Support development across multiple abstraction levels, including system-of-systems, system, and subsystem, ensuring consistency and traceability.
  • Work in parallel with software engineering teams to maintain architectural alignment and define clean, well-documented interfaces.
  • Provide architecture and requirements inputs to integration and test planning, including the development of test procedures and related artifacts.
  • Support formal technical milestones such as Preliminary Design Reviews (PDRs), Critical Design Reviews (CDRs), and other design reviews by preparing and presenting relevant engineering artifacts.
  • Contribute to configuration-controlled engineering artifacts within a distributed team environment, ensuring proper version control and traceability.
  • Decompose higher-level system and subsystem requirements into detailed software and hardware specifications as needed.
  • Maintain end-to-end traceability between behavior, structure, interfaces, and requirements within a single integrated model.
  • Collaborate daily with geographically distributed team members via Microsoft Teams and other collaboration tools to coordinate technical work and resolve issues. Essential Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience developing system and subsystem requirements and specifications.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Cameo Systems Modeler in an MBSE environment.
  • Proficiency with SysML, including use case diagrams, activity diagrams, requirements diagrams, block definition diagrams (BDDs), and internal block diagrams (IBDs).
  • Demonstrated ability to connect behavior, structure, interfaces, and requirements within a single integrated model.
  • Experience supporting full Systems V lifecycle efforts from a systems engineering perspective, including behavioral, structural, and interface definition.
  • Prior exposure to formal design reviews such as Preliminary Design Reviews (PDRs) and Critical Design Reviews (CDRs).
  • Experience developing and maintaining system and subsystem requirements and specifications with strong traceability.
  • Ability to contribute effectively within a distributed engineering team using collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams.
  • Eligibility to obtain a U.S. security clearance. Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with undersea, naval, or sensor-based systems.
  • Familiarity with submarine platforms or underwater vehicles.
  • Experience working on programs that execute across the V-model while incorporating agile, incremental development practices.
  • Prior experience supporting distributed engineering teams across multiple locations.
  • Experience pushing system and subsystem requirements into detailed software and hardware design specifications.
  • Active U.S. security clearance.
  • Interest in creating new requirements and architectures from the ground up rather than maintaining legacy systems. Work Environment This role is primarily tied to the Manassas site, with an expectation of being onsite in the office, especially during onboarding and key program activities. The team operates in an agile, incremental development environment that follows the systems engineering V-model and leverages MBSE practices using Cameo Systems Modeler and SysML. You will collaborate closely with a distributed engineering team across the United States, using tools such as Microsoft Teams for daily communication and coordination. The position offers a flexible schedule and opportunities to work from home when program needs allow, while still maintaining strong engagement with onsite hardware, integration, and test activities. The work centers on a modern engineering facility focused on advanced sensor systems for submarine platforms, providing a technically challenging and innovative environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Manassas, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $75.00 - $90.00/hr.
