Job description
The Financial Analyst II plays a key role in bridging accounting execution and financial planning and analysis. This position is responsible for supporting the month-end and quarter-end close process while also providing meaningful financial analysis, insight, and decision support to the business. The role partners closely with finance team members and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance activities.

Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries and supporting schedules for key balance sheet and income statement accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards
- Review and approve journal entries prepared by finance team members, providing guidance and quality control support
- Complete monthly and quarterly account reconciliations, investigating variances and ensuring timely resolution
- Analyze account transactions, balances, and trends to explain period-over-period fluctuations and support management reporting
- Prepare financial analysis and insights to support decision-making, including cost allocations and performance drivers
- Assist with the preparation of regulatory filings and ensure compliance with applicable requirements
- Support procurement activities, including financial review, document preparation, and adherence to internal policies
- Prepare year-end audit support, including working papers, schedules, and auditor inquiries
- Act as a backup for other finance team members to ensure continuity of month-end, quarter-end, and planning processes
- Support ad hoc financial analysis and special projects as assigned
- University degree in Bachelor of Commerce, with a concentration in Accounting or equivalent
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in accounting
- Experience in a post-secondary institution or not for profit environment would be an asset
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Highly detail-oriented, able to maintain accuracy under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Advanced knowledge of MS office suites including Word and Excel
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving knowledge and skills required to draft possible solutions
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities
- Strong administrative skills
- Satisfactory Canadian Police Clearance document required upon hire
