Job description

We’re DF Capital – a specialist bank providing award-winning commercial finance, retail finance, and savings products to consumers and small businesses. Based in Manchester, we serve thousands of customers across the UK and into Europe, supporting their ambitions with tailored financial solutions. We help our customers realise their ambitions by doing things differently – combining the agility and innovation of a specialist lender with the security and service standards of a regulated bank. Whether it’s flexible lending structures or straightforward savings options, we focus on what matters most to our customers. In 2025, we launched DF Capital Retail Finance – a subsidiary of DF Capital Bank Limited – to offer specialist hire purchase solutions to retail customers. Our goal is simple: to do the absolute best for our customers, our communities, and each other. YOUR NEW ROLE: The Credit Manager plays a critical role in evaluating and assessing the creditworthiness of potential borrowers, with a focus on loans secured by corporate assets such as inventory, accounts receivable and equipment. To be successful in this role you will need strong financial acumen, risk analysis skills, and a comprehensive understanding of Stocking Facilities, ABL structures and collateral monitoring. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Other duties may be assigned outside of the following duties and responsibilities: Credit Analysis and Risk Assessment : Conduct thorough financial analysis of prospective borrowers, including historical and projected financial statements, cash flow, business models, and management teams, to determine loan eligibility and structure. Collateral Evaluation : Analyse and assess the quality and liquidation value of proposed collateral (A/R, Inventory, Floorplan Assets, Equipment) using appraisal reports, field audits, and industry data to establish appropriate borrowing base and advance rates. Deal Structuring : Work closely with Business Development colleagues to structure complex funding transactions, ensuring terms mitigate risk for the lender while meeting the borrower's capital needs. Credit Assessment Preparation : Prepare detailed and persuasive credit approval reviews, outlining the transaction, borrower analysis, risk assessment, mitigants, and recommended terms, for presentation to managers and credit committee. Compliance & Policy Adherence : Ensure all underwriting activities comply with regulatory requirements, internal credit policies, procedures and SLAs. Collaboration: Liaise effectively with Business Development, Portfolio Management, Legal Counsel, and clients to gather necessary information, clarify uncertainties, and facilitate a smooth closing process. Market Awareness : Stay current on industry trends, economic conditions, and regulatory changes.

5+ years in commercial lending (or similar roles) to small & medium sized businesses with experience in trade finance or Commercial Asset-Based Lending, including invoice finance. Deep understanding of financial statements, cash flow and collateral analysis. Proven ability to structure and underwrite complex commercial loan transactions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex financial concepts and risk assessments clearly. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with high attention to detail.
