JOB SUMMARY:
This position provides for Senior Leadership in Civil, Structural, and Geotechnical engineering solutions for new development projects at Leeward including wind, solar, and storage with the primary responsibility of providing solutions to improve overall plant cost, operational costs, performance, reliability, and safety. This position reports to the Senior Director of Development Engineering. The goals of this position are to continue development of plant design standards, ensure current projects in construction and the development pipeline meet technical and business requirements while maintaining our long-term ownership focus. The position requires experience with utility scale renewable energy civil plant design and construction as well as the ability to manage complex and time sensitive projects in a fast-paced environment while communicating effectively.
Responsibilities:
Ensure the management and delivery of the preliminary internal engineering needed to support the Development pipeline, including optimized site layouts, preliminary engineering/studies to meet project needs.
Ensure that the civil, structural, and geotechnical portion of the BOP and long lead equipment estimated costs are optimized by providing accurate project layouts which reflect turbine, solar field, and storage optimization, along with constructability and operability reflected in order to maximize Power Purchase Agreement award or merchant operation potential.
Oversee and manage engineering activities, including preliminary and final geotechnical investigations, corrosion analysis, pile load testing for solar, grading analysis, hydrology studies, stormwater management, and structural designs using outside consultants as needed.
Ensure that issue for construction drawings and specifications are provided and documentation (i.e., “As-Builts”) accurately reflects the installed facility and is complete for all project work
Review civil calculations and plans to provide a 30% design package for contractor bids. Review bids and work with contractors to further optimize the design to IFC.
Work with Operations Engineering on design updates to existing facilities as needed.
Directing Mid and Junior Level civil engineers and review of their work.
Mentoring of Junior Level Civil Engineers.
Technical Skills:
PE Registration.
Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and drawings and other common specifications.
Keep current on Wind Turbine, Solar Module, Solar Inverter, and Energy Storage technology offerings and suppliers.
Contribute to RFP process for construction of the projects.
Support EPC team for projects under construction.
Contribute to management, and updates to Leeward’s Basis of Design to be competitive and provide reliable projects.

Hydrology modeling and studies
Scour Analysis
Geotechnical methods and reports
General structural requirements and equipment load documents.
Civil road and drainage design
Crane Pad and Crane Walk Design
Transportation and Delivery Plans
Flood Zone review
Wetlands review
Researching of local/state requirements as it pertains to civil design.
Qualifications:
4-Year Bachelors Engineering Degree.
Minimum 10 years of relevant technical experience; renewable power generation preferred. Excellent communication skills, including ability to clearly communicate ideas to non-engineers.
Ability to remain focused and reliable in completing tasks and meeting deadlines with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and manage technical projects, including interaction with outside vendors.
Understanding of civil, geotechnical, and structural design as it relates to renewable energy projects.
Demonstrated ability to manage priorities in a complex and dynamic environment.
Demonstrated ability to operate a motor vehicle and possession of a valid driver's license.
Physical Demands:
Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, reaching, and climbing at project locations to inspect and repair equipment or collect information.
Willingness and ability to travel at least 15%
