Job description

The Role

As a Senior Data Analyst - Economics at SEEK, you'll be part of a fast-paced and supportive environment where you can make a real difference. You'll work on complex challenges that have a direct impact on people's lives, helping us evolve our business and reach new heights.

As a leading online jobs marketplace in APAC, SEEK has unique and timely data on the labour market across the region. The role of the Senior Data Analyst - Economics is to work with the Senior Economist to create and update insights and assets derived from these data, potentially in combination with external data. The insights are aimed at positioning SEEK as an authority on APAC labour markets, while supporting business decision-making and sales teams. By helping stakeholders to better understand APAC labour markets, the role helps SEEK to achieve its purpose.

The role reports to the Senior Economist in the Government Relations & Economics (GR&E) team but also works with several key stakeholders across SEEK. The position requires close collaboration with the Senior Economist to transform SEEK's extensive labour market data into compelling insights, analytical products, and strategic intelligence that serves both external and internal audiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Analysis and Insight Generation
    • Support the production of regular data products including the SEEK Advertised Salary Index, monthly and quarterly labour market reports, and other labour market indicators
    • Manipulate and combine large, high-dimensional datasets from multiple internal and external sources to generate labour market insights
    • Work with SEEK data across APAC to create new labour market indicators, reports and insights
  • Data Infrastructure and Management
    • Ensure data quality, accuracy, and integrity across all economic data products through rigorous testing, validation, and monitoring processes
    • Automate data extraction, transformation, and loading processes for economic reporting
  • Reporting and Visualisation
    • Design and develop visualisations, and reports that communicate labour market insights effectively using tools such as R or similar
    • Assist in preparing materials for media engagement, investor relations, and briefings on labour market trends
  • Collaboration and Business Support
    • Collaborate with teams across SEEK including Corporate Communications, Strategy, Marketing, Finance, AI Platform Services, Commercial Excellence, and Investor Relations
    • Respond to ad-hoc requests for labour market analysis and economic data from across the business
  • Model Development and Forecasting
    • Develop and maintain models that support SEEK's labour market forecasting and scenario analysis
    • Apply statistical and econometric techniques to understand economic relationships and predict future labour market trends

The Team

The GR&E function is a small, specialist team consisting of the Head of Government Relations and Economics (reporting to SEEK CFO), the Senior Economist and two newly created roles – the Senior Data Analyst – Economics and the Senior Manager, Government Relations. The team works to position SEEK as an authority on labour markets and to support business decision-making through expert analysis of SEEK's unique data assets.

While small itself, the team works in close collaboration and partnership with numerous functions across SEEK. The Senior Data Analyst – Economics role does not have direct people management responsibilities but will need to maintain strong connections across the organisation. These include working with various teams such as: Corporate Communications, Strategy, Investor Relations, and Marketing and Sales.

Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field (postgraduate qualifications are advantageous)
  • Experience – applied or academic – working with a range of economic and business data
  • High level proficiency in R, SQL and/or similar programming and statistical languages (with a strong preference for proficiency in R)
  • Ability to draw out insights from data and communicate these with clarity, at a level appropriate for the intended audience
  • A track record of producing high-quality analysis under tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently, while connecting with the appropriate people at the appropriate time to successfully deliver agreed outcomes
  • Experience or demonstrable interest in labour market economics and employment trends (additionally, public policy experience / interest is advantageous)
  • Demonstrated ability to work with ambiguity and adapt to changing priorities
  • Willingness to continuously learn and develop new skills in a dynamic environment
  • Strong collaboration skills and proven ability to work cross-functionally with diverse stakeholder groups.
