Boeing Defence UK is looking for a IT System Administrator to support various technical requirements within a busy IT Infrastructure team. This role will involve contributing to the delivery of projects and sustainment within a demanding environment supporting Boeing Defence UK operations.

The role whilst hybrid there will be an expectation to work from our Bristol site a 2/3 days per week. You will be involved in system integration activities, hardware and software installation, daily support, configuration and disposition of servers and networks to ensure the user experience is exceptional. The role will predominately support our software engineering team with a varied technical stack that incorporates the Atlassian collaboration tools.

As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for delivering products and outcomes within a defined project where customer service and IT performance is paramount.  Equally comfortable, confident and professional whether on the end of a phone or ‘hands-on’ at a desk, you will be the sort of individual that takes pride in providing a first-rate service and genuinely enjoys solving IT issues for colleagues at all levels. This role will be embedded within our Systems Team, however it will involve a lot of customer facing collaborations with our development and engineering teams.

The successfully candidate will need to be multi skilled across a number of system administration disciplines such as Windows, Linux and development tool chains.

Position Responsibilities

  • Continuously looking for improvements to ensure services operated are aligned to industry best practice and Boeing enterprise best practices.
  • Responding to events, requests and incidents logged in management systems.
  • Performing analysis of log files, systems, and network traffic.
  • Working to well-defined SLAs & KPIs
  • Support of functional teams such as networking
  • Identify and raise technical challenges and limitations within the IT estate
  • Respresent IT International when the need arises
  • Providing comprehensive and timely communications to key stakeholders
  • Producing and updating comprehensive documentation
  • Representing IT within our development community, ensuring compliance and process is adhered to
  • Execute routine vulnerability scans and categorise security risks to ensure threats are remediated
  • Maintain an accurate hardware/software asset register
  • Ensure infrastructure integrity through persistent monitoring

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • Minimum of 2 years demonstrable experience in a Linux, Wintel, DevOps role either delivery or support.
  • Good Linux systems administration skills, including configuration, troubleshooting and scripting.
  • Troubleshooting and performance tuning experience.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Working experience of the Atlassian toolchain
  • Working within an ITIL framework

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

  • Experience of working within a secure environment
  • Experience of automation techniques
