Job Description

As a Field Service Engineer – Drive Systems you will provide advanced technical expertise, on-site service delivery, and application support for Rockwell Automation Low Voltage and Medium Voltage Drive Systems. The role focuses on commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance, and optimisation of drive systems across Mining, Water, and Industrial applications. Exposure to industrial automation systems is beneficial and actively encouraged as part of the role's development path.

The role requires approximately 85% site-based work at customer locations, participation in a 24-hour standby roster and frequent travel, including overnight stays at customer sites.

You will report to the Services Manager and have a hybrid schedule working in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Your Responsibilities:

Technical Field Service & Support:

• Commissioning, start-up, fault finding, and optimisation of LV and MV Drive Systems

• Preventative and corrective maintenance of drive and motor control systems

• Emergency breakdown response and participation in standby support

Automation Systems Exposure (Beneficial & Development-Focused):

• Exposure to PLC programming, commissioning, and diagnostics is beneficial

• Exposure to HMI development, modification, and troubleshooting is advantageous

• Understanding of industrial communication networks (e.g. EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, Profinet) is beneficial

• The role provides opportunity and encouragement to grow capability in automation systems integration alongside Drive Systems expertise

Application & System Engineering:

• Support applications including pumps, conveyors, crushers, and fans

• Support system upgrades, retrofits, and modernisation initiatives

Customer Engagement & Service Delivery:

• Act as a trusted technical advisor to customers and internal teams

• Support technical discussions, troubleshooting reviews, and service proposals

Quality, Safety & Compliance:

• Execute work in compliance with safety standards, statutory requirements, and site regulations

Continuous Improvement & Skills Development:

• Participate in formal and on-the-job training to develop Drive and Automation system competence

• Maintain currency with Rockwell Automation technologies and service practices

The Essentials - You Will Have:

• Minimum 5 years experience with LV/MV Drive Systems (400V, 690V, 3.3kV–11kV)
• Industry exposure in Mining and/or Water & Wastewater environments

The Preferred - You Might Also Have:

• Exposure to industrial automation systems is beneficial but not mandatory
