POSITION OVERVIEW

Netgear is seeking an experienced Facility Manager to oversee operations at our 45,000 square foot Chennai office. This critical role requires a seasoned professional with experience in managing facilities for electronics and hardware companies, ensuring seamless coordination between landlord relations, employee support, health and safety, security operations, lab maintenance and organization, company events & meetings, visitor accommodations, and complex supply chain logistics for hardware equipment and testing infrastructure. This is a high-impact individual contributor role where you will be the sole owner of all site operations. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

FACILITY OPERATIONS & LAB MANAGEMENT

  • Serve as primary liaison with building landlord and property management team
  • Negotiate service agreements and facility-related contracts
  • Own and ensure 52 week calendar of preventative maintenance for all building systems and lab hardware
  • Oversee maintenance, repairs, and building infrastructure upgrades
  • Manage vendor relationships for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building maintenance services
  • Support audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Maintain lab equipment, coordinate servicing, and troubleshoot operational issues
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, or non-conformances and implement corrective actions
  • Coordinate with lab departments, researchers, and external stakeholders as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of the laboratory environment.
  • Ensure day-to-day activities are carried out in line with health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Identify workplace hazards and take appropriate corrective action or escalate as needed.
  • Maintain required emergency plans and health and safety records and documentation.

PROCUREMENT & SUPPLY CHAIN LOGISTICS

  • Manage inbound shipments of hardware products, components, and equipment from ODM partners
  • Coordinate receiving, inspection, inventory management, and secure storage of electronic equipment
  • Oversee procurement of test equipment, lab supplies, and facility materials
  • Manage customs clearance, import documentation, and compliance for international shipments
  • Coordinate outbound logistics for product samples, prototypes, and equipment transfers
  • Implement inventory tracking systems and maintain accurate records of all assets
  • Negotiate favorable terms with logistics providers, couriers, and freight forwarders

WORKPLACE EXPERIENCE

  • Provide exceptional employee experience through efficient facility services and support
  • Manage workplace amenities including cafeteria, meeting rooms, and common areas
  • Coordinate workspace planning, office moves, and workstation setup for new employees
  • Address employee facility-related requests and concerns promptly
  • Organize and manage company events, meetings, and visitor accommodations

BUDGET & FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

  • Develop and manage annual facility operations budget
  • Monitor expenses, track spending against budget, and identify cost optimization opportunities
  • Prepare financial reports and forecasts for facility-related expenditures
  • Negotiate contracts to achieve optimal value while maintaining service quality

SECURITY & ACCESS CONTROL

  • Implement and maintain comprehensive physical security systems and protocols
  • Manage electronic access control systems, visitor management, and badge issuance
  • Coordinate with security personnel and monitor surveillance systems
  • Develop and enforce security policies to protect personnel, equipment, and intellectual property
  • Conduct regular security audits and implement improvements as needed

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Facility Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field
  • Minimum 8-10 years of facility management experience, with at least 5 years in electronics/hardware/technology companies with responsibility for lab management
  • Experience operating independently or as a site lead
  • Proven experience managing large facilities (30,000+ sq. ft.)
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and drive outcomes
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate with diverse stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of supply chain operations, logistics, and procurement processes for electronic equipment
  • Experience handling ODM shipments, customs clearance, and international logistics
  • Knowledge of physical security systems, access control technologies, and safety protocols
  • Familiarity with handling sensitive technical equipment and test infrastructure
  • Excellent vendor management and negotiation skills
  • Strong budget management and financial acumen
  • Proficiency in facility management software, inventory systems, and MS Office Suite
  • Knowledge of local building codes, environmental regulations, and compliance requirements

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certification in Facility Management (CFM) or similar professional credential
  • Experience working with networking equipment, routers, or telecommunications hardware
  • Background in managing test laboratories or R&D facilities
  • Familiarity with ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) protocols and controlled environment requirements
  • Experience implementing sustainability initiatives and green building practices
  • Knowledge of emergency response procedures and crisis management

REPORTING STRUCTURE

This position reports to the Head of Real Estate, Workplace, and Facilities in the US and works closely with HR, IT, Finance, and Engineering teams to ensure optimal facility operations that support Netgear's business objectives.
