Job description

Join Clario, part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, and lead the team that builds the shared services, reusable capabilities, and integration patterns powering our next-generation clinical trial technologies. This is a build role, not a caretaker role. You will set the technical bar, ship alongside your team, and create platform foundations that 20+ agile squads depend on every day.

This is a player-coach position for an engineer who never wanted to stop being one. You stay in the code. You lead by example. You bring a scrappy, execution-first mindset: bias to ship, comfort with ambiguity, and a relentless drive to move fast without breaking the things that matter in a regulated environment. You will also drive the adoption of agentic AI coding tools across your team, not by mandate, but by proving their value in your own daily engineering work and building a culture that defaults to AI-augmented delivery.

If you want to architect, write code, set standards, and own outcomes rather than manage status reports, this is your seat.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation

  • Health, dental, and vision coverage

  • Paid time off and company holidays

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Stay hands-on in the code. Architecture spikes, code reviews, and real implementation work are the job, not a side activity. We expect a technically active leader who leads by doing.

  • Build and evolve the platform that squads build on: shared libraries, reusable services and integration patterns

  • Design and ship high-volume backend services and device-driven REST APIs covering the full device lifecycle: provisioning, deprovisioning, study configuration pushed down to devices, and offline-capable sync for disconnected field devices.

  • Bring a scrappy, execution-first mindset. Move fast, cut through ambiguity, ship iteratively, and pull your team into the same rhythm.

  • Champion agentic AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) by leading through personal example. Demonstrate faster delivery through AI-augmented workflows and help your engineers build the habit.

  • Own security and compliance as a first-class engineering concern. Champion secure SDLC practices, drive vulnerability remediation, and bake compliance expectations into how the platform is built, not bolted on after.

  • Continuously sharpen the team's tooling and practices across CI/CD, deployment, and developer productivity. Cut waste, kill toil, and make pragmatic improvements that compound.

  • Own roadmap execution and team development: drive timelines, coach a senior-heavy team, and contribute to hiring.

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including technical leadership through mentoring, enablement, or cross-team collaboration.

  • Deep, hands-on proficiency with C# and .NET / ASP.NET Core. This is the primary engineering stack and non-negotiable. You are expected to remain technically active in it.

  • Strong experience designing and supporting backend services and RESTful APIs in production environments.

  • Experience building reusable libraries, shared services, or platform capabilities consumed by multiple teams.

  • Experience with Python services (development or support), with the ability to work across both ecosystems as needed.

  • Experience with AWS cloud services, including Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, DynamoDB, or comparable platforms.

  • Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or SQL Server.

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and cloud-hosted deployments.

  • Working knowledge of API security and authentication (OAuth2, JWT, API keys) and secure development practices.

  • Proven ability to mentor engineers, communicate effectively, and influence technical decisions without direct authority.
