Prosthodontics is the diagnosis and management of the replacement by removable and fixed prostheses (including implants) of teeth and associated structures lost as a result of disease, inheritance or trauma. This also includes operative dentistry which involves the restoration of teeth damaged by caries or tooth wear to restore and maintain oral function, such as chewing and speaking, and improving appearance. It is based on the Construction of oral prostheses to replace missing teeth and other oral structures and to correct natural and acquired deformation of mouth and jaws.
