Job description

Overview The London Borough of Harrow is seeking a skilled and motivated Occupational Therapist to join our Adult Social Care team, specifically focused on our Reablement and Enablement service. This vital role involves working closely with commissioned providers to help residents regain the skills, confidence, and independence necessary to live fulfilled lives in their own homes. The successful candidate will champion a strengths-based approach, ensuring all assessments and support plans align with the well-being principles of the Care Act 2014. You will be responsible for assessing and monitoring goal-focused plans that reduce the need for long-term care through effective rehabilitation and equipment provision. Key duties include collaborating with reablement carers and the wider multi-disciplinary team to establish outcome-focused goals while providing expert clinical coaching to promote rehabilitative techniques. You will evaluate functional abilities to recommend equipment and moving and handling strategies that optimise safety. As part of this role, you will manage a caseload autonomously and travel regularly to peripheral stores to collect, deliver, and fit low-level equipment. Physical ability to handle these manual aspects and a valid UK driving licence with access to a vehicle are essential. We require a qualified Occupational Therapist registered with the HCPC who possesses a deep understanding of reablement principles and the "home first" philosophy. You must be a confident communicator capable of making sound professional judgements in a fast-paced environment. Please note that while we are currently accepting applications, the successful candidate will be scheduled to start this role in April 2026 About You The successful candidate will have: Dip COT (state registered) or Degree in Occupational Therapy. Registered with HCPC Enhanced DBS check is required for this role. Ability to maintain and demonstrate Royal College of Occupational Therapy guidelines and standards of practice, including maintaining accurate and comprehensive records. Good understanding of relevant legislation including Care Act 2014 and Mental Capacity Act 2005, demonstrate the ability to work in accordance to the Care Act Statutory guidance , MCA Code of Practice . Educated to degree level or equivalent or has the equivalent relevant work experience.
