Job description

About Rivian Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract. As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations. Role Summary We are seeking a highly organized and visionary Maintenance Engineer to transform our maintenance operations across the EDV and R1 Bodyshops. Your primary mission will be to lead the department's cultural and operational shift from a reactive mentality to a world-class, proactive reliability model. Acting as the central hub for scheduling and resource management, you will champion Preventive Maintenance (PM), Predictive Maintenance (PdM), and Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives to maximize asset uptime and ensure seamless production. Responsibilities Leading the Proactive Reliability Strategy: Act as the primary change agent on the floor, driving the shift from reactive fire-fighting to proactive reliability. Partner directly with shop leads and technicians to evaluate and elevate maintenance procedures for all bodyshop assets. Use data-driven insights to identify chronic failure modes, engineer them out of the system, and explicitly focus on introducing advanced Predictive Maintenance (PdM) techniques to catch failures before they occur. New Equipment Integration: Collaborate directly with Manufacturing Engineering when new equipment is installed or handed over to maintenance. Ensure all new assets are accurately created in SAP, foundational PM schedules are established based on Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) recommendations, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) are correctly configured to guarantee proper spare parts management from day one. Strategic Scheduling & Coordination: Plan and schedule all off-shift and weekend maintenance work. Act as the primary liaison, collaborating closely with all body stakeholders, production teams, and shop leads to ensure maintenance activities minimize operational disruption. PM Execution & Compliance: Drive routine maintenance execution to achieve and sustain a >98% Preventive Maintenance (PM) completion rate across both the EDV and R1 shops. Continuous Improvement (CI): Spearhead CI projects and root-cause analysis (RCA) initiatives to aggressively improve overall maintenance KPIs, such as Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and Operational Availability. Safety & Compliance: Ensure all planned maintenance activities incorporate thorough hazard assessments, OSHA regulations, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, and strict adherence to robotics safety standards before work begins. Vendor & Contractor Management: Source, quote, and coordinate external contractors and service technicians for specialized equipment repairs, major shutdowns, or overflow off-shift and weekend work. Documentation & Standardized Work: Create, update, and manage maintenance manuals, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and One-Point Lessons (OPLs) to ensure standardized execution by the maintenance team. Spare Parts Management: Develop, implement, and oversee a robust spare parts program across both shops. Ensure critical spares are identified, properly stocked, tracked, and easily accessible to minimize Mean Time To Repair (MTTR). Qualifications Education & Experience: A Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree is required. Candidates must have direct, proven experience working within a bodyshop environment as a Maintenance Planner, Scheduler, or Reliability Engineer, with a track record of driving proactive maintenance cultures. Technical Expertise: Deep familiarity with bodyshop-specific equipment, specifically requiring experience with FANUC and Kawasaki robots, as well as Rockwell PLC-controlled systems and automated joining technologies. System Proficiency: Strong, hands-on experience utilizing SAP as a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Candidates must have proven experience with SAP to automate maintenance schedules, track work orders and manage asset history. Maintenance Methodologies: Strong understanding of industrial maintenance practices, encompassing both Preventive (PM) and Predictive (PdM) techniques (e.g., vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis). Project Management: Demonstrated ability to lead Continuous Improvement (CI) projects and utilize methodologies like Lean, Six Sigma, or 5S. Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional communication and cross-functional leadership skills to gain buy-in from technicians and align production goals with maintenance requirements.
