Provides nutritional care of individuals in health or disease, which includes the application of the science and art of human nutrition in selecting and obtaining food.Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Assists in collaboration with the multidisciplinary medical team in planning and implementing complex nutritional care plans, inclusive of reviewing current clinical guidelines and patient charts.
Obtains and evaluates comprehensive nutrition histories of patients regarding food habits, allergies, and metabolic needs.
Requires proactive communication with families and outpatient providers to plan nutritional interventions well ahead of scheduled clinical admissions or procedures.
Designs medical nutrition therapies consistent with the patient’s clinical diagnosis, considering nutritional principles, physiological needs, and patient preferences.
Supervises the service of regular and therapeutic clinical diets for patients to ensure compliance with medical orders.
Assists in the supervision of Dietetic Technicians and food service staff in the production and service of specialized medical diets with strict quality control.
Makes appropriate changes in medical diets or nutritional support procedures based on the patient's changing clinical status or lab values.
As necessary, develops innovative recipes or formula compositions for patients with restricted diets requiring unusual products or specialized nutritional modules.
Assists in directing the collection of food intake data or metabolic samples for laboratory analysis as required by clinical diagnostic protocols.
Interacts effectively with medical students, house officers, fellows, and attending physicians to optimize patient outcomes.
Counsels and educates patients and their families on specialized diets to ensure successful transition to home care and long-term nutritional health.
Performs other clinical duties as required or as department workload shifts.

Required Qualifications:
- Basic Life Support Certification or obtains certification within one month of employment. Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements.
- Registered Dietitian license for state of Missouri and/or Illinois depending on work location(s).
Starting in 2024, the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) will require a minimum of a master’s degree to sit for the registration exam which is needed to receive a Registered Dietitian License.

$56,200.00 - $87,100.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University.
