Job description
Job Summary:
Position broadly supports multiple ongoing research projects under the direction of HSCRB Professor Richard Lee. The Lee laboratory uses biotechnologies to discover and design new approaches to cardiovascular and metabolic diseases using a variety of techniques including stem cell and molecular biology.
Job-Specific Responsibilities:
More specifically, the research assistant will:
- Maintain tissue cultures (feed, expand, and split cells)
- Characterize cells by standard molecular, cellular, and functional methods
- Carry out rodent animal husbandry (breeding, genotyping, metabolic and protein assays)
- Perform tissue histology and immunohistochemistry techniques according to established protocols; Analyze data and document experimental results
- Maintain equipment, make stock solutions used in methods above, and contribute to general lab organization.
Basic Qualifications (required):
One year of biological laboratory research experience is required. Relevant college coursework that includes cellular and molecular biology may count toward experience.
Additional Qualifications and Skills (preferred):
Bachelor's degree in biology or related field is strongly preferred. Prior experience and work in metabolism a plus. Experience with molecular biological, cell culture, and sterile laboratory techniques are required. Excellent organizational skills and great attention to detail are essential components of this position as is the demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team-oriented environment. Comfortable working with small animals. Computer experience is essential as analysis and documentation of results are required.
