POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Sport & Community Development Supervisor, is responsible for the effective and efficient development, marketing and management of the services and programs provided at the Tbaytel Multiplex and seasonal turf facilities. Key responsibilities include liaising with facility users, maximizing facility use, and supervising daily and special event service delivery. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Participates as a member of the Section’s service delivery team to carry out the goals and objectives of the Section. Serves as on-site facility supervisor for daily operations and special events as required; coordinates with facility maintenance team and concession operators; acts as point of contact for emergency/issues management. Liaises with facility renters, community leaders and groups, service providers, Corporate staff, and other organizations; ensures rental agreement/contract fulfillment and maintains a high standard of public relations at all times. Develops marketing and communication strategies to increase facility use and revenue generation. Develops promotional materials and content; maintains and updates web pages and social media. Supervises Unit staff including staff development, performance management/review, coaching/mentoring, health and safety, and discipline and termination decisions. Assesses Unit staffing needs, makes recommendations on complement amendments and organizational structure, participates in recruitment processes, and makes effective hiring decisions. Secures events to be held at the Tbaytel Multiplex, Fort William Stadium and other municipal turf facilities; assists with bid preparation and hosting activities for multi-sport games and events hosted at the TbayTel Multiplex and Fort William Stadium. Develops, administers, and maintains policies, procedures, and standards of service and complies with appropriate legislation and regulations. Assists with advertising and sponsorship sales and fulfillment. Researches and monitors trends, statistics, customer requests, and customer survey results to offer insight for facility operations. Prepares information, reports, and business cases; conducts benchmarking and performance monitoring. Participates in the preparation and monitoring of annual capital and operating budgets, prepares cost benefit analysis and makes recommendations on resource allocations, efficiency and/or effectiveness improvements including alternative funding strategies. Performs such other related duties as may be assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Experience: Degree in a recreation, event management, sport management, or related field such as tourism, human services, social sciences or public or business administration along with two (2) years of experience in sport events and sport administration and working with community and volunteer sport organizations; or Diploma in recreation, event management, sport management or related field such as tourism, human services, social sciences or public or business administration along with four (4) years of experience in sport events and sport administration and working with community and volunteer sport organizations Demonstrated knowledge of organized sports and recreational activities, including facility, scheduling, and programming requirements across diverse sport disciplines Previous supervisory experience Experience in community development and partnerships, marketing, organizational/event/sport development Skills/Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing Self-starter with proven organizational and time management skills Ability to function and contribute as an effective team member and to work independently Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective professional and working relationships with a variety of people including funding agencies, staff, community partners and the public Proven facilitation, report writing, and presentation skills Ability to generate subject matter interest and effectively market related programs, activities and initiatives Ability to identify, understand, and meet/exceed the requirements of internal/external customers Strong research, project/time management, analytical and problem-solving skills Proven ability to function and contribute as an effective team member and to work independently Must be at an intermediate skill level in word processing, and spreadsheet software Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act Assets: Experience with web page management Knowledge of Thunder Bay’s sport sector CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: May be required to travel to various work locations and provide own transportation Must be able to work irregular hours, and off site as required Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) General Information : As an equal opportunity employer, the City of Thunder Bay encourages applications from Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, members of visible minority groups, women and members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
