Explore Career Pathways for Laboratory Professionals: Responsibilities The Phlebotomist functions as a laboratory professional who p erforms specimen collection techniques or specimen collection instructions that include: venipuncture, capilla ry draws, urine collection instructions , and specimen culture collection instructions. Qualifications Job Requirements : High School diploma or equivalent . Completion of an accredited phlebotomy/medical assistant program with clinicals or previous phlebotomy experience . Certification from a nationally recognized agency. Accepted agencies and certifications include: National Health Career Association – Certified Phlebotomy Technician: CPT (NHA) American Society for Clinical Pathology – Phlebotomy Technician: PBT (ASCP) American Medical Technologists – Registered Phlebotomy Technician: RPT (AMT). National Center for Competency Testing – National Certified Phlebotomy Technician: NCPT (NCCT) American Certification Agency – Certified Phlebotomy Technician: CPT (ACA) Basic computer skills and strong customer service skills . Preferred Job Requirements: Experience working in the clinical setting . Rate of pay is determined based on experience and education and may include other pay components such as differentials and call pay based on role.
